After PeckerSoft did this with Win2k, we ran another 2+ years at GenMills before upgrading... The change was driven by SAP, not the Windows end user needs.
Hey, 98 still works nicely with older, low ram, desktops. Win2k is on several machines around here (server based) with no complaints from the users.
We are considering using something of this nature to expand our user base, as the majority of the DT's just sit all day anyway...

Got some good nurseries down there though...
My Tosh laptop is Vista. It's been rock-solid, no problems yet, but I'm not running any legacy stuff or peripheals.
Most everything I plug into it configs automatically.... I know of others that have struggled a bit...it certainly needs LOTS of ram and process POWER to run effectively.

Here at the office thay were running test systems with Vista. The goal was to roll Vista out to everyone. It only took 2 days with the test systems to shut the program down due to incompatability to several software packs that we are using.

Quote (GlassMan @ April 29 2008,10:40 am) | Heck, I'm still using a few '98 machines.....all my electronic orders come in over one.
I'd go crazy if I had to upgrade 50 users to Vista - it took 5 years just to get them to move up to Windows 3.1 from MS DOS. Switching to XP was traumatic for some....
I'd switch to Linux, but my manufacturing software won't run on it. Â |
Maybe go with MAC's down the road...they can run XP apps better than Windows...

Mac's would be everywhere if you could buy one for 500.00 .... but ya can't... until Apple releases the strangle hold on Macintosh hardware, it'll always be a niche machine.

Art, I have that running on one of the test machines I have hooked up to my KVM switch here. So far, so good. They say it's supported until 2011....I guess maybe they might want some moohla after then. I haven't tried the server version

Firefox is "tolerable", especially if you don't have I.E. I don't like the way it handles downloads, fonts, frames, style pages, etc ...
We've got Safari on our MAC's ... seems to be fine, the little I've worked with it (like now)... I may just download it on my Vista to see what's what...
IE7 is just too comfortable right now to "change"...

I'll let you d/l Safari and try it out...since you will know how to fix your puter if it breaks it.
I had firefox on another computer and never got comfortable with it either. Supposedly it doesn't have the issues IE has...but I never liked it.
One would think the owner of a site with more than 20,000 members *might* want to work on the incompatibility issues..but he's an asshat. Right Kelly?

You don't like Firefox I think it's way better than IE7, sites and downloads are twice as fast, seems just as easy to use as IE7!..
