Quote (CaliKat @ May 10 2008,4:32 pm) | Looks like Mexican Cliff Swallows...wish I had some. Â I haven't found a single nest this year...no baby birdies to photograph.
The new resident Canada geese, Lucy and Ricky, have invited their friends Frank and Lola to come hang out. Â They're not showing any signs of nesting, but I'm still hoping. Â The goslings are so cute! Â No baby ducks yet either...but last year they didn't show up until mid summer. Â We're lucky if we get two broods a year now, and usually less than half make it. |
Becareful what you wish for, Canada geese are a pain in the a$$ and mean, and they never go away and make a mess, I have them in my lake all the time, I will try and get some pic's for ya.

Oh, we have tons of geese here, we are the overwintering grounds for hundreds of thousands of them. Â This is just the first time Canada Geese have moved in here. Â Funny, I've never found them to be mean...just noisy. Â And yeah, they poop. Â So does everything else. Â That doesn't bother me nearly as much as folks who don't clean up after their dogs.
Now Greylag and swan geese and any hybrid of those are MEAN. Â And they are usually the ones that take up residency at parks and lakes where there are lots of little kids' hands and fingers to bite.
I took this yesterday, I think that cat's eyes are too big for it's stomach! Â Â

9-10 years ago some swallows nested in my eaves just like yours....they returned each year following(I assume the offspring return ), until one spring after they arrived the weight was too much and the nest fell down.....I think the dude let his mate down by not reinforcing the house enough It was sad, we didn't notice in time to help them. None have returned since that season since the family cycle was broken(again I assume but seems logical) . Hopefully for you Shue, they are not nested above your patio door(as was or case ) or other door, they do end up making quite a mess under the nests.....but they are fun to have around, watch them roost, bring in bedding, food. Then hear the baby chicks, see their heads once in a while then their scary first flight.......then boom, they're gone til next year.
Ain't life Grand? Treat it that way. The Love of my Life, Jan.
