PEORIA, Ariz. (Map, News) - A boat on Lake Pleasant northwest of Phoenix caught fire on Sunday, injuring three girls and a boy.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lindsey Smith-Macklin says the children had second-degree burns on the lower halves of their bodies, but that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
The children were two 12-year-old girls, a 12-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl.
Peoria police spokesman Mike Tellef says the fire began at about 10 a.m. after the male owner of the boat ran his engine vent for only a minute before starting it.
Tellef says the vent, which clears out dangerous gas fumes, should run for about 10 minutes or longer.
He did not release the name of the boat owner, who he says is the father of one of the girls. He did not know how many people were on the boat altogether.

This has got me a bit worried. I never run my pump for more then a minute or two. Should I be? Is this reason a bunch a crap as Waterdog says. There has to be another reason for the fire, other then not running the pump long enough?

I'm with shu and WD. I only run my blower for just a minute or two as well. I would have to say there was a bigger problem like a weak blower, misplumbed blower like a hose off or a fuel issue.

Not until it has a big blower on it. |
I've seen this more than once, even had a friend that got tossed out by an explosion, couldn't pay me to put an engine cover on!..

You ever had a boat you could put a cover on. Besides, I've seen your motors and they deserve to be shown off.

I would love to. But I would loose seating and that would not be a good thing in my boat.

Quote (lawbreaker2 @ May 28 2008,7:31 am) | We only left the blower on for a 2 maybe 3 or 4 mins, always, and he would even lift the hatch open for a bit and sniff, So as I grew up it became apart of me, when I got my jetski's always took the seat off and let it air for a few min's. |
Very good habit to get into!..

The first start is ok, it's after running it and it's hot then vapors start to accumelate after shutting it off, then it becomes a bomb!..
