Does this look like the "little fella"?
Camel Spider/Solfugids Solfugid, Camel spiders or Wind scorpion as they are called, are not technically spiders but belong to an order of arachnids known for their speed and their large, forward-pointing chelicerae, or biting fangs. They live in tropical or subtropical dry areas of the Americas, Asia, and Africa. Worldwide, there are about 900 known species of wind scorpions, and in North America there are 120. They were the subject of the urban legend going around about soldiers in Iraq being chased and eaten by large spiders.

Those are good bugs... they eat the bad bugs... Â
We have them around here, the will eat and attack the more normal looking scorpions, which are attracted to the crickets... it's the circle of life really.

A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.

Quote (tonedog @ Aug. 01 2008,11:21 am) | Since this seems to be the 'unwanted house guest' thread I have some ants in my kitchen. They come out of the cracks in the paint around the window. So they show up, I poison them, they dissappear, then come back three months latter. Anyone have a brilliant idea to get rid of them for good? |
Try using a product called "Term-Out" (or any other gaseous insecticide), if its still on the market. Is mainly for termites, but have used it on Argentinian tree ants (tougher than termites) with success. Has a little hose with a "needle" on one end attached to the nozzle. You stick the "needle" into the hole/crack and "FIRE!". The stuff permeates the ENTIRE nest, not just the surface, and kills everything in there. Then seal up that crack, bomb indoors with a fogger, and spray the foundation with a good insecticide (Diazinon {if still available}, Malathion, etc.) This "attack" has worked for da gig for years; even on da tougher little critters. But the goal is to get the entire nest. The advantage is that you're in AZ and much of the stuff we can't use in Cali is still available in AZ. Good luck if you choose to accept this mission.

Quote (tonedog @ Aug. 01 2008,2:29 pm) | Thanks, Gig, I'll check into it and let you know how it goes. Â The boss (aka missus tonedog) thinks we should call Havasu Pest Control, but I forsee a sizeable bill with that route. Â I like doin stuff myself, plus I'm cheap so da Gig's plan is right up my alley! |
If you call HPC ask for Ike...He's my nephews uncle. Tell him Ziggy sent ya. He put some stuff in for ants and we haven't had any in over 3 yrs.
Ain't life Grand? Treat it that way. The Love of my Life, Jan.

I just killed one of those last night. Â We also have some other spiders that I just noticed for the first time this year. Â They look like wolf spiders, but they have webs and the webs are SUPER sticky, worse than a black widow web. They have been really bad in the closet (they like to nest between clothes that are hanging or jacket hoods) and in the drapes. Â This has definitely been the year of the spider at our house. Â Last year it was bunnies, the year before it was gophers and ants. Â Just like Rosanne Rosanadana said, "It's always somethin'!"
