So They Will Be A Couple Of Minutes Closer To The Action..... |
Way to close already. Last trip out we were doing the 5 mph thru Thompson Bay. A boat and two PWC's heading out just gassed it. As I'm grabbing my camera, lights and sirens come on right behind me, 100 yds off my stern. I'm still wondering where they came from. I guess he might of been waiting them as there was no guestion and answer period. They were just told to get on his boat. Asked him if he might need my pic's. He just smiled and said not for this group. About 99% of the time, when your invited on their boat, your going to jail.

AUGUST 20 MEETING SUMMARY
Special guests included:
- Vice Mayor Dennis Schilling - Council candidates Dean Barlow, Don Callahan and Lee Barnes - BLM-Kirk Koch
The Chancellor of Mohave Community College, Dr Michael Kearns, outlined the new AAS Degree program in Marine Technology, which will commence in one year. The first class will graduate in 2011.
Our Lake Clean up is scheduled for Wednesday September 3 at 7:00 AM at Windsor 4. The London Bridge Yacht Club will join in our effort to clean the Lake. We will do this on a monthly basis, usually the third Wednesday of every months at 7:00 AM at Windsor 4. We need boats and volunteers!
Also joining us in this effort is the Chemhuevi tribe. Charles Wood, the Chairman of the Tribal Council explained our partnership. The Tribe will share the cost of bags and bag dispensers on the California side. The Marine Assn will be responsible for the clean up.
Long time member Dan Herron has volunteered to be the Clean Up Coordinator, as this program will be large enough to require some organization. We hope to have 25 boats on September 3!
The consensus is that the Police approach to the Channel has resulted in very positive feedback from nearly all members. Chief Doyle explained their policies and noted only one arrest by the Patrol Boat this entire season. He also announced they would not enforce the 36’ maximum boat length ordinance- in fact that sign will come down. It will still apply to houseboats.
The City Police Department and the Marine Assn are jointly producing 5-6 30 second Public Service Announcements on water safety for cable TV. The first two on Jet Ski safety were aired at the meeting.
Former Executive Director Todd Headley has agreed to be the Safety Coordinator for the Marine Assm working with the agencies to promote safety on the Lake. Welcome back Todd!
Another special guest was Ms Dale Bailey, interim President of the CVB. She discussed the changes going on as they prepare for a permanent person within 60 days or so. Boating will be promoted and we expect to work closely in jointly improving our tourist business.
Back to the Channel, City Parks Department Head Bill Maccahey discussed the third sea wall plan and discussed weeds, rocks and other issues. The City is listening to our concerns and we have input on improvements there.
Windsor launch ramp presents a huge opportunity! Manager/Ranger Tim Kristof presented an opportunity for improvements. Fish and Game has the funds to place and add to the docks on the North ramp. If collectively, the City, State Parks and Marine Assn can contribute $34,000, Fish and game will add a $100,000 grant. The result will be a larger, longer set of docks accommodating boats up to 36 feet and longer. In addition, a sea wall at the very end! More on this at next meeting.
