So in this mornings E-mail is a letter from my old boss, I mean my boss of a decade plus ago. (Qualcomm/LSI Logic), to put this in perspective, myself and 3 others designed the chipset that is the processor for your CDMA GPS G3 cell phones back in 99-2001, and now it's apparently time to develop the next great form of high speed wireless communications, and guess who they want back for the job again? . The stress of round one nearly killed me the first time (Ziggy and Malibuken can tell you I was not a nice nor happy camper) as I contemplate round two....my hearts racing, that familiar pain in my chest is back, and I don't know if I have it in me again....basically my job is to design the circuits for this and plane and simple....months of engineering time (millions) and $100k's of layout and fab...depend on me checking all the engineers schematics (make sure he didn't short anything out or hook it up wrong) and not making what would amount to so much as one type-o....if I do miss something/make a mistake..you start over with chip design. 100's of thousands if not millions wasted (fortunately I never made that OOPS) lots ride on what I do/did and your the one that makes or breaks the design/company. now add traffic jams (to and from) plus all the haters, 16hr days, over crowding...and wearing a FRICKIN tie with Dockers again and you get Summit. BUT!!!!! it's one HELL of a paycheck (WELL!!!! into 6 figures)
question is would you risk the heart attack/stress level and your newly found peace of mind/state of grace for the paycheck, or continue on with life as is, "just keeping even"

If I may ask, and I'm just courious here, but what is it exactly that you do with those high schoolers? .....and yes, money doesn't buy happiness SK. But it sure can rent you a big chunk until the health goes south. Try goin' with your heart. It's not all cluttered up with greed, desire, or want of material things. Your heart will take better care of ya 9 out of 10 times. If you're already painin' over the decision, seems to da gig that the decision has made itself!Take your health and sanity and run with it if you have been doin' OK since you last worked for 'em. agreed, best move I ever made was leaving "cubical hell", it more than likely saved my life, but "making it" in Havasu has been a break even of sorts kind of life style...and I value that greatly.....I love playing Architect and restoring cars is just a dream come true for me, it's been my dream/passion from childhood (hotrod shop) but with all the pluses Havasu offers me, it lacks what I crave/miss most, The challenge to my mind, that of being on the cutting edge of Tech and designing whats never been done before. it's quit a rush when you accomplish something like that.
so I just hung out with my dog to do some thinking...you guys are right the decisions already been made, I actually made it back in 1996 when I bought my Havasu HOME!! , and I am here for my dog as much as I am here for me (quality and pace of life) as for the "rush" from accomplishment...I realized I got that last week when the car club I started out here, handed over the big annual charity check.
but....... I think I am going to counter their offer with "off site contract only"...and see if they bite doubt it but what the hell it's worth a try
Thanks for the help guys....."putting things in perspective"

That's what I would do... work remote from Havi as an out-sourced contractor...cruise down to SD 1-2 times a month. If your there full-time, you'll stress for sure, and all the "young guns" will be taking their best shots at ya...(been there, done that)...
Get some legal help, if ya need it, to get the contract verbage detailed so you don't get

Well, I don't know it can go both ways, stress from not having money and no life can be pretty hard too and can lead to , nothing comes free but the HUGE paycheck eases the stress way more than , at least for me it does!..

I learn' em how to behave. Counseling mostly. I was a real pain in the arse myself years ago. I take the "at-risk youth", and spend alot of time with them at detention hall and Saturday School etc. I enjoy very much what I do, day in and day out. Too bad that everybody doesn't feel that way about what they do. My Wife says I love what I do because I don't have to grow up.
