Monster lobster netted off Dana Point By MARK EADES The Orange County Register Comments 49| Recommend 13
Butch Sanders was hoop netting off Dana Point on Thursday night and wondered why his net was so heavy.
When pulled in, the net contained a huge 15-pound lobster.
Sanders named the lobster George.
George is now on display at Jon's Fish Market, 34665 Golden Lantern, in Dana Point Harbor.
"We're going to keep him on display for all to see," said Megan Fitzgerald, general manager of Jon's Fish Market. "Kids love it."
Fitzgerald said the lobster was probably 50 to 60 years old.
"It takes them several years just to get to the legal size to be caught," said Fitzgerald.
The restaurant and market has George in his own compartment in the aquarium there. Fitzgerald said there are no plans to sell him soon.

Confucius also say. " If it smells like fish, do as you wish...If it smells like cologne, leave it alone."
"It seemed like a hell of an idea at the time".

Different lobster than above. This one has good ending.
At 140, Lobster Earns His FreedomBy VERENA DOBNIK, AP posted: 46 MINUTES AGO NEW YORK (Jan. 10) - A 140-year-old lobster once destined for a dinner plate received the gift of life Friday from a Park Avenue seafood restaurant. George, the 20-pound supercentenarian crustacean, was freed by City Crab and Seafood in New York City. P.E.T.A. / AP George, the 140-year-old, 20-pound lobster, lies on a plate at New York's City Crab and Seafood restaurant. He was spared the kitchen, and will be liberated off the coast of Maine on Saturday.
"We applaud the folks at City Crab and Seafood for their compassionate decision to allow this noble old-timer to live out his days in freedom and peace," said Ingrid E. Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. PETA spokesman Michael McGraw said the group asked City Crab to return George to the Atlantic Ocean after a diner saw him at the restaurant, where steamed Maine lobster sells for $27 per pound. George had been caught off Newfoundland, Canada and lived in the tank for about 10 days before his release. Some scientists estimate lobsters can live to be more than 100 years old. PETA and the restaurant guessed George's age at about 140, using a rule of thumb based on the creature's weight. He was to be released Saturday near Kennebunkport, Maine, in an area where lobster trapping is forbidden.
"Damn you sure know how to fock things up."-GFR
