I'm thinking about rewiring my bug to clean up the old crap and simplifying the wiring. Rewiring the the ignition and charging side is easy. The lights a breeze. I need to keep directional signals active. I want to do them up with a SPST center off switch. Will this work? Does someone have a simple wiring diagram for this or be able to give basic discription on what I can do to make this work as easy as I can?

Thanks

Batt to center pole, and left and right turn wires on the side poles. If you get them backwards just rotate the switch.  Boatcop has a website that is mostly VW stuff. Probably get all kinds of info there. Link to it is on HD's front page, then click, Ask Boatcop.

It Can Be Done, But You Will Have To Use Two Lights On Each Side On The Rear. One Light Will Be For Turn Signals And The Other For Stop Lights.....

Yes but on a VW the turn signal is a seperat cicuit and bulb. Right now I have the Turn signal and running lights on the same light using a 1157 bulb. also I have the brake lights on seperat lights. The wiring on this thing is a mess. So I'm seriously looking to redo and simplify it all. While eliminating crap that is not needed. Like the rear window defroster, A fan control that I have yet to find the fan.  :stupid

Trace the turn sig wire back to the front and connect it to one of the outside poles on switch. Repeat for other side.

here is how to do this and keep the brake lights working

you will need a DPDT (on off on), not (SPST= on off)

+12v to one pole on a flasher, the other terminal on the flasher to the center poles of the switch, then hook the two front lights to the (on) terminals on the DPDT that are in line with of the commons and do the same for the rear lights on the other pole (so now you have 1 +12v in/common and 4 seperate +12v outs/on), now hook +12v to the brake light switch, the other end of the brake light switch to BOTH the ON'S of the DPDT that you used for the Rear lights.
wha la :D ........the same rear lights (1157 bulb) works for turning and brakes

What happens in Havasu get's around in 5 minutes
