Not to out-do Alaska's bridge to nowhere, Havasu gets a new sidewalk to go between the closed-up abandoned village and a bridge that doesn't exist.
A salute to freedom Memorial walkway dedicated

American history and the sacrifice of her veterans were the focus under the London Bridge Saturday.
Local and state dignitaries were on hand to dedicate the Freedom Bridge Memorial Walkway in the English Village.
“I thank you, I pay tribute to you, I honor you for this wonderful project,†said Tom Horne, Arizona State School Superintendent.
The walkway, which will extend on the mainland side of the Bridgewater channel from the English Village north to the location of the proposed second bridge to the Island near Windsor Beach 4 at Lake Havasu State Park, will be made up of engraved bricks purchased through donations.
The first shipment of 500 bricks arrived earlier this week and Robert Barnes, deputy director of Veterans Affairs for Arizona, placed the final brick of the first group Saturday.
“Freedom, to those that have fought for it, has a very special meaning,†Barnes said. “It’s vital to pass this message on to the next generation.â€
In addition to the walkway, the Freedom Bridge Foundation is raising money for enhancements to the bridge, including an upgraded bridge design and a Freedom Bridge Park with statues and sculptures to be developed next to the bridge.
“It’s amazing what they’ve been able to do,†said Lake Havasu City Mayor Mark Nexsen. “They’ve done it all without taxpayer dollars. The city will build the bridge and all the enhancement will be done buy the Freedom Bridge Committee.â€
