Mom came down from Portland Oregon during the holidays, she was glad to leave there this year, they got more snow than normal.
Figured we would share some family time with mom, but she got more than she bargained for.
My grandson got the flu on Wed the week before Xmas, grandsons mom got it Thursday, Vickie babysat to help out, well that started it for us.
Vickie got the flu on Sat afternoon, I got it Sat night at midnight and mom got it on Monday.  This was not the typical 24 hour flu either, for some reason it took us all down for about 3 days each and mom is still a bit weak.  If it was not coming out one end :puke it was coming out the other.  Dang!
One good thing, we did not gain the usual holiday pounds this year, instead I think I lost a bunch.
Funny thing is, Vickie DID get a flu shot. :D

Little bit of the same for us but not as severe. Daughter had a cold last week or so, then Jan, my dad, and both in-laws came down with it the day after Christmas. I felt it trying to get me but I fought it off sofar it seems.(me and my Airborne).
And like Vickie, Jan had gotten her flu shot too.......as she lay in bed all sick and groggy I gave her a thumbs-up and said "good thing you got your flushot" :bebe  I'm outta here :rotflmao

Yup, everyone is back to normal CE, kind of.  I am getting back in shape to drink heavily on NY Eve.  At least if I puke, I will have earned it, not like that flu. :D

Way to go Zig.  :good   I told Vic the same thing, all she said was "this was not the flu the shot was for", ok then, which one was it for, the flu in the fireplace?  :eek  :D  Sheese!  Then she smacked me.  :beat  :D :D

Sheesh MK...sounds like our New Years a few years ago in ATL.  Went to a NYE party with a bunch of friends on Lake Lanier.  First person started feeling ill during the party, she was sick by the time she got home.  Then it hit her fiance.  New Years Day my niece got it, then my SIL, my bro, then me, mom, and dad. Thank goodness I had my own room and bathroom in the basement.  Then I heard everyone at my party was dropping like flies, as were the people from the party my bro had...as were people all over the greater ATL area. :eek   Turns out we had a lovely case of the Norwalk virus.  Flight home was cancelled, obviously...so instead of being in the air during the National Championship game, I got to watch my beloved Trojans throw the game away which really made me feel worse.  I could not believe how sick I was.  Even my skin hurt.  The only other time I've been that sick was when I got Salmonella poisoning 3 days before I was to fly out to Europe for a 3 1/2 week trip.

Ain't no flu shot in the world that will prevent this bug...flu is respiratory. ;)   Glad to hear you're all on the mend. :good

Never had one Never will, I'm like you, I hardly ever get sick and if I do it's no big deal to me eat some chicken soup and double shot of Night-qil and alls goods. I think all these shot and pills make the body stop fighting and breaks the body down, let nature take care of it.

DAMN :eek CK, that was a sucky NY for sure!
I am with you guys, never had a flu shot, never going to have one.  I think they play the odds, when you go thru a year without getting sick after getting the shot, they say the shot worked, thing is you probably would not have gotten sick anyway.
Vit C is the way to go, unfortunately we were too late in taking it, so now it is a must everyday, plus Grape Juice in the morning, plus Vodka, that seems to kill all the bugs. :D

Actually the party was really fun!  We ended up with people coming from FL, AL, TX, lil ol me from Kaliforneeia and the local GA crew.  One of the TX peeps came via one of the Carolinas, so he brought a bunch of fresh shellfish (including oysters) and one of the GA peeps had fresh stone crabs sent up from FL.  Plus I was given my very own bedroom so I wouldn't have to drive back to my bro's in the middle of the night.  It wasn't til I was safely back at his place that the symptoms hit, thank God.  And thankfully I wasn't on the plane! :eek

I've never had a flu shot either...if I get anything it is bronchitis and no shot will help that either.  Never got the chickenpox vaccine...taking my chances that at this stage of my life the odds of me getting chickenpox after all the times I've been exposed are pretty slim.

That's the funny thing about flu shots that not too many know about. They set up their flu vaccines mainly based on LAST YEAR'S flu season. Know how many times the same flu has been seen in consecutive years? Zip, nada, nil, zero, NONE! Bad thing about this year's flu is that the "bug" that's running rampant has shown to be completely Tamiflu resistant. Now that's a bad bug. I too don't get flu shots. Back when they used to use "live bacterine" vaccines, I used to get sicker than $hit from the shot. Then they developed "dead bacterine" vaccines which supposedly could not make you sick. Yeah, right. I always managed to find a way to get sick from the shot. So, I just take my chances nowa days.

The other problem with flu shots is that the virus mutates so much in the course of a season it no longer resembles the original virus.  Sophomore year of college I was the first one on campus to get one of those nasty "asian flu" strains.  Living in a sorority house at the time, it spread like wildfire.  I was sicker than a dog, my roommates finally dragged me off to the health center for a couple weeks.  By the time it had gone through campus it had mutated so much that I got it again...which the doc swore couldn't happen. :rolleyes
