Quote (Hockey Family @ Jan. 28 2009,4:04 pm) | We're in a bad situation for sure. I just wish our president would prove me wrong of my impression of him being a puppet/salesman.
Another quote from his campaigne days went something like... 'Just tell me what to do and I'll sell it'
Doesn't sound like a leader to me.
Also said he was going to take a 'scalpel' and cut spending. Not a 'hatchet' as McCain wanted to do. OK, so where are the cuts? Looks more like he's takeing a 'hose' and letting loose on spending.
If he's made any spending cuts, I've missed them. |
If I may be so bold as to attempt to address your contentions.....
A "good" leader will always "sell" his "crew" that the direction that he is about to lead them in is the "sanest, safest, and most beneficial" for them. Haven't you ever had the ol' "rah-rah" speech that all is well and we're about to "set sail on the most exciting time of our endeavour"? While all the time you're sittin' there either scratchin' your head and/or crappin' or pants and sayin' "What?".
Secondly, IMO, a "scalpel" is the tool of choice for this operation. The "hatchet" that has been wielded the last 4-6 years has already "butcherd up" the "patient" enough. Now it's time to clean up the wounds, pick up the pieces, and resuscitate the "victim(s)". We don't need to go into this blindly "hacking" away at it. We need to work fast while doin' our best to avoid the mistakes that damn near killed the patient in the first place. We ned to get money back into the hands of the near-extinct middle class. History has proven that it's the middle-class workin' peopel who pull "us" out of these downturns. We're the ones who can't afford to sit on our "stimulus dollars". we spend them, unlike many of the wealthy, political, and "corporate", who tend to hoard their capital in times like this. What's really goin' to make this difficult is that "we" my have waited too long to get this ball rollin' to prevent catastrophic closures and loss of jobs as we are witnessing nationwide, nay, worldwide. It was reported today that the number of people seeking and receiving unemployment benefits is at an all-time high. Greater than even the "Great Depression". But how do you account for the lower % you ask. Simply more people living and of working age right now and the programs that were available in the '20s and '30s did not track the "claiments" as they do today.
The cuts that he is going to be able to get passed are going to be of little consequence due them being "neutered" by bi-partisanship. Not one single Republican, not even the "beloved" maverick McCain (who may have abstained, I didn't see the final tally breakdown) voted for Obama's stimulus package. Does anyone else see where this is going? The, excuse my "french", F*CKING MORONS IN DC have learned absolutely ZIP in the last 100 tears; so why would they have learned anything inthe last 6 months. They're not voting for what may or amy not be the best plan for you and me, Americans. They're voting for what they believe is best for their respective parties. They're not even going to give it or us a chance to make a difference.
Now, remember that that is just my opinion. I believe WD hit the nail on the proverbial head. This economy will not turn around until people can keep their jobs and regain their confidence that those jobs are going to be there tomorrow. I mean; are you going to go out and buy a new car today, not knowing if you're going to be employed tommorrow? I think not.
To take it one step further, let me lay upon you something the wife said a couple of weeks ago. She thinks that if the government really wants to "bail" anyone out, it should be the people. Erase any and all debt that has been accrued through shady and/or questionable loans and let the a$$holes who perpetuated this fiasco pay for it instead of blindly giving them more money to continue doing what got us here in the first place. Is anyone giving you you money unquestioningly because you have over-extended yourself and can't afford to continue with your "way of life"? Nope; didn't think so.
It's a big a$$ nasty mess we're in and I don't think we're going to see much change until the, forgive my "french" once again, F*CKING A$$HOLES IN DC start working TOGETHER and quit licking the a$$es of the culprits that got us here!
