Just saw this on PB...
A program coming to Lake havasu and the Bridgewater Channel. Beginning this season, you can now legally park your boat overnight in the channel. They will be putting aside 200 spots in the southern side of the channel that you can rent for the night. It's weekends only and for $50/niight, $100 on holiday weekends, you can reserve a tie up for the weekend. They will have security guards to watch over the boats at night. You can also reserve the spot for the entire season for $2,800. Funds to be split by the city and the Lake Havasu Marine Assoc. and funds to be used for improvements.
Oh boy, $50-$100 a night to sleep in that sewer... If I'm gonna spend the night on the lake, it ain't gonna be down there...

Just read some more...you can't say overnight, just park your boat there... Good luck with it, Havasu...

Is this the same area, spots that have always been free. Nothing in the Havi paper about it. |
Seawall rings on the south side...looks like the LHCMA is pushin' it through...

Even if it passed, I don't think many will go for it. Gonna be funny seeing guards wearing tool belts and pulling wagons around after hours. Certainly will add to boat stuff on CL.

7:58 am this morning I was woke up by a phone call from the LHCMA, telling me I was wrong to oppose them, now keep in mind these are the guys I have to work with for the DSSP.
with my morning constitutional being interrupted, I was in no mood to listen to the CRAP (pardon the pun).
here's the reality of it, or at least what I have uncovered being on the phone for the last 4 hrs. (it was quietly trying to get pushed through)
it's coming from the LHCMA (that in itself raises suspicion) and "THE PITCH" is they want to do this to replace the SLIF funds that were taken form Parks & Rec. so that the Channel can be cleaned up and dredged.
The Reality of if is that, they (THE LHCMA) are already selling annual spots to it's members (boat Manufacturers) and the Channel will turn into a "Boat Mall" 16 weekends a year.
so either this has already been approved by the LHC city Council or the LHCMA is committing fraud. it's one or the other
either way I am on this like stink on my morning dump, it may put me in conflict with those I have to work with for the DSSP, but I must consider the long term benefit to my community first, I am really riled up over this so watch out (bull in china shop) I am stopping my work and going after this full time with everything/city favor I got.
just think how pissed the rest of the merchants are going to be that they are excluded from a spot if they don't have a boat, most of them know me and know I bring a but load of biz to them via car shows etc. wonder who they are going to support
wish me luck please, I am going to need it to defeat the LHCMA

I'm (we?) are behind you 110%... This is an a$$anine idea with, as it looks, deeper ramifications than exposed on the surface...

Thanks Shue,
your dead on...but I am going to have to rake the two guys I need to work with for DSSP over the coals on this, it's not going to be a very pleasant DSSP for me this year , been on the phone allot today and just about everyone sees it for what it is "(commercialization of the channel)
annual spots, yes $3k ea from 8pm-8am. so lets say I am a boat builder, I "Rent a Ring" and get there Firday night at 8pm, I tie up my model boat I am trying to push/sell then comes 8 am in the morning.." I ain't going anywhere" why? 1) I don't have to and 2) I was one of the privlaged few that got to pay for "First come First serve" , now tell me that all the spots won't picked off by manufactures and we have instant "Boat Mall" in 200 of the 300 rings in the channel and if fundementally changes the channel as we know it. Thats the LHCMA at work and thats what the LHCMA is about "local maunfacter domination/promotion"

I am in TOTAL AGREEMENT with reserved parking for Special Events, like Desert Storm. The participants come a long way with BIG MONEY to make this event what it has become... They need to be provided for...

SK, why not poll the members here? Get an impromptu petition started....
I for one am behind you - I think it's wrong what they are proposing and even wronger the way they are going about it.
If money talks then let's let them know that we'll take our money elsewhere.....sure they may get paid for rental of those "Rings" but the shopkeepers will lose business and we've all sat by and watched as losing business' are going under left and right. Then what? No rents, no taxes.
Sure, go ahead rent those rings. That's an easy way to tabulate exactly how much money you'll make in a year...because that's about all you'll make LHCMA. Â

I am collecting all posts and PM's that disagree with the "Rent a Ring" proposal, please feel free to write "in a non combative way" what your concerns are. I will be taking them with me to see the Mayor prior to the Feb 24th hearing.
FYI....as I type this I am in the middle of filling out the application for a Non-Profit LLC (same thing I used to start my car club charity) it will will be for
Lake Havasu City Coalition of Boaters
The LHCCOB is a chartable non profit LLC who's mission is 1) To protect the rights of public boaters on Lake Havasu 2) To raise awareness of issues that will affect the public boater on Lake Havasu 3) To raise money for needed improvements and maintenance of Lake Havasu. Though it's annual regatta 4) To be a voice against commercial interest that threaten public usage of Lake Havasu.
I am going after the LHCMA..full tilt, I intend to expose them for what they are (a Manufactures Association) with only the local manufactures interest at heart and they do this under the cover of calling themselves (a Marine Association) set on protecting boaters rights.

Can I sign up today. Good to know that somebody's got our interests in mind. Thanks Karl. Strength in numbers. Could be good timing too. LHCMA is losing major members by the day. Someday someone is gonna figure out that us little guys spend a lot of bucks in that city every year at many places. Hotels, gas, restraurants, launch fees, sun screen. The list is endless, but it all adds up to money for the city. I could save a bundle by staying in Needles, and just boating down to Havi, use there facilities all day and not spend a penny, then boat back to Needles with my money.

You can sign up, as soon as the LLC is processed (about 30 days). when starting a LLC it's way harder if you already have a membership, because the LLC must be distributed amongst the membership and all the members info (name addy phone etc.) must be recorded (by the state) at the time of approval.
it is done that way so if the LLC is dissolved, all the assets of the LLC must be equally distributed to the membership (as recorded) at the time the LLC was approved.
