This one was completely under and frozen over. They had to cut the ice with a chainsaw and send a diver down to look for it and attach a line!  :eek  :laugh

Ever since a friend of mine in our local mntns. went waist deep through ice I learned ice is for drinks and not for walking on. Same thing in BigBear once, couple of the guys ventured onto the ice and we all heard it crack....mad scramble to the shore and they managed only to go ankle deep. :rotflmao The rest of us made yellow snow we laughed so hard. :laugh

EXCELSIOR, Minn. - A dump truck fell through the ice Tuesday afternoon on Lake Minnetonka, where it was working on a project to curtail erosion at Big Island.

It was carrying a load of dirt when it fell through the ice near the southeast end of Big Island. The Minnesota DNR said the truck fell into about four feet of water.

The driver made it out of the truck safely.

The dump truck is owned by Sunram Construction Incorporated, based in Corcoran, Minn. The company is responsible for getting the truck out of the water.

An extending arm was being used Tuesday afternoon to lift dirt out of the bed of the truck. Sunram was also bringing in a second machine to help pull out the truck, but had no estimate of how long it will take.

The DNR said the company is not in trouble, and will not be cited for any wrongdoing.

The construction company estimates the truck weighs about 40,000 pounds. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Department doesn't believe the company violated any weight restrictions.

Different town, same problem

Also Tuesday, a crane fell through the ice on a pond at Fred Richards Golf Course in Edina. The course was closed at the time of the incident.
