Hmmm, you don't want the beach...but I really liked Hilton Head Island in SC. We rented a beach house and bikes. There were nature preserves to ride through, plus you can ride thru the golf courses and look for gators. The island is divided up into plantations, we stayed in Sea Pines. There were some good restaurants and an outdoor patio area where you could drink and listen to live entertainment. It really was one of my favorite vacations and I'd love to go back and explore the area more. I havent' been to NC yet but everyone I know loves it too. Most of my east coast trips involve the southeast. I'd love to travel through New England, it's on my list. I really want a lobster roll! Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard/Cape Cod are places I'd love to see, but summertime stinks there, just too many people. Early June might be fine. Never been to Niagra, nor anywhere in Canada, but there are a lot of places I'd like to see there. I'll keep thinking.

I've been to the Norfolk/Virgina Beach portion of the Cheasapeake Bay, but it was in winter...on a small sailboat, in a storm and with the flu. Â Â Â But it was a fun place, seems like lots to do. Â Went looking for whales in the bay but found none.
If you have piles of money, I'd suggest the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulfer Springs, WV. Â It's a 5 diamond resort and has it's own cold war bunker! Â
Awww damn, just saw that it filed for Chap. 11 and is being taken over by Marriot. Â Wow...a sad ending for a legendary place. It survived the Great Depression and the Cold War. Glad I got to experience it in my lifetime.
Hmmm, maybe rooms are cheap now!
It really was a cool place...you can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greenbrier
I'm still thinking of more ideas!

Niagara Falls is cool.....for a while, then not a ton of other stuff to do unless you want to go to Canadia and make fun of the Canadians.
If you are really feeling patriotic, Washington D.C. and surrounding area is a must-see. You can spend 3-4 non-stop days and still not see everything.
The Capital, Smithsonian, all the memorials, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Arlington...I could go on and on.

NYC by far... Been 5-6 times...it NEVER gets old... Decent rates happening now as well...
Take the train out to Long Island and enjoy a romantic one-nighter...

Quote (Hockey Family @ April 02 2009,9:46 am) | Yeah, DC is at the bottom of the short list. Would be cool to see all that, but seems more of an educational, than a fun trip.
Besides, if I'm in DC I may not be able to overcome the temptation to throw a rock at the White House. At the very least, a handfull of tea bags. Â |
It's Not All Educational....

I could probably spend a week in the Air and Space Museum and never get bored.

Isn't that part of the Smithsonian. Another good Air and Space Museum is in Redstone Arsenal, AL.

Quote (Hockey Family @ April 06 2009,5:36 pm) | Thanks for all the input, uh.. Â peeps.
After throwing around several ideas, including Boston and an Alaskan cruise (till my wife figured out alaska is cold   )
Looks like we will be taking a cruise out of Miami for 5 days and then spend two days in Miami.
I kept bringing up the points that we've done two cruise's before and I don't like to just lay around a beach. Wanted to do/see something different.
I said, well, if we're going to vacation at a beach in sunny weather, I'm gonna rent a harley to cruise around Miami. She's all in. Now maybe I can talk her into getting tooed at Miami Ink? |
Sounds Like A Cool Vacation!!
