NOD32 is one of the best...little pricey ($90/2yrs), but with the amount of on-line work you do, I'd go and get it... http://www.eset.com

Quote (GlassMan @ May 19 2009,7:06 pm) | I did load Avast on one home computer, but it was a PITA to remove. I had to download a utility to remove it because it's own uninstall doesn't work - a known issue they don't tell you about, but you won't find about if you buy it at the end of the first trial period Â
I just upgraded my office network to Symantec Endpoint because it's pretty easy to deploy to the network and it monitors all the desktops.
So...if you want to stick with free stuff, AVG or Avast are popular, but have their pitfalls. Seems the only ones I don't have issues with are Symantec and Kaspersky Security 2009.
I am not familiar with NOD 32.
Ya get what you pay for... |
Agreed...I have had nothing but probs getting rid of Symantec or McAfee...
NOD32 is pimped by Leo Laporte...whom I respect...

Well, I been using AVG for a long time and was pleased with it, but Avast found crap that AVG never even caught and it's a no brainer to use, the boot scan really digs into it and machine runs smoother afterwards!..
Uniblue, is also good for tune ups!..

I would watch the ESET NOD32 VERY Closely!!!! Â I have an Engineering firm customer of mine up here that uses NOD32 Exclusively. Â It's always kept up to date and is installed on all of their PC's Laptops, and servers. Â HOWEVER, I am CONSTANTLY finding viruses on the PC's and Laptops. Â Here's the big one though...Last week I was on the phone 1/2 the day with the FBI because somehow a Virus slipped through on one of their servers and installed a Ebay and Paypal Look-alike Phishing website. Â You know, the one that says you have to update your information.... Â After finding the problem and convincing Ebay Security and the FBI (Ebay Security turned it over to the FBI for investigation) that there was no data on the server from this, I got the problem resolved. Â But it took alot of time and $$ expense to the customer, all that could have been avoided if the NOD32 would have caught it |
dang!
Now That really sucks!
They are probably on all the blacklists now...wait and see. You'll be getting calls about how nobody is getting their emails!
I've been through that. Had the webmaster at Bellsouth.net on speed dial until it got resolved with them....

I like the AVAST but have a customers computer sitting here now that got infected BIG TIME with RootKits. AVAST, nor any other AV program for that matter, has been able to remove the Rootkits because they are embedded in the OS files now.
The key to Viruses is this, NO VIRUS INSTALLS BY ITSELF! THEY ALL TAKE HUMAN INTERACTION. All of the AV programs in the World won't do you a bit of good if the End User doesn't heed the warnings and pay attention to what they are doing

Already been through all of the blacklists. Their domain has been delisted from them all. It's a pain in the A$$ to do all that though. ICANN was even involved in this and told Qwest to shut down the IP/Domain I think the customer got off cheap...They are getting my $1500 bill but it could have been alot more and alot worse....
