I ended up buying a Frigidair front loader (which is who makes the Sears brand washers)... nothing foofy, just a couple wash cycles and that's about it... I think it was ~500 or so, they have them at Lowes and it'll wash king size bedding no problem. |
We bought one of those almost exactly 3 years ago. Â They came out and installed it. Â I ran one load and it broke. Â The door locked and wouldn't open, just error codes. Â Took a month to get a new one. Â Since I had ran a load, it was "used" and the place I bought it from wouldn't replace it . . . until I gave them such a headache and threatened to dump it in front of their store with a big sign on it (Pacific Sales). Â Then, about a month ago, it stopped draining. Â I don't know if the drain was clogged or the computer went bad, but I wasn't willing to pay a repairman 125 bucks just to come out and tear it apart and take a day off work. Â So we threw it in the dumpster and bought a Maytag that was assembled in the US. I had paid 700 bucks for my 3 year old washer, so yes, I'm still pissed off about it.
I like the front loaders because they use less water and they are gentler on clothes. Â When we move we'll get another set.

If you get a front loader, make sure it had drains in the "boot" at the door. Mine didn't, but most of the new ones do. Also, don't go the cheap way out and not get the stacker things that go underneath. I hated having to bend over or squat down in the morning and pull all of those wet clothes out. You think it won't matter, but the older you get, the more it matters.

This is the second one I've had (the first was my brother's Kenmore model that's 9 year old, and he wanted it back when his g/f's washer crapped out)... absolutely no problems... we paid 450 a year and a half ago...
I'll never own an agitator washer again. Our clothes last years longer... literally. I've got a 5 year old work polo that, while faded, doesn't have that thread bare look the clothes usually get after years of use/washes.

A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.
