So Jeff put on a race in Pennsylvania about a half hour north of Harrisburg. Â I got to go sightseeing. Â I was very excited to go, being the history nut that I am. Â Here are the pics.
Philadelphia City Hall, with William Penn at the top. Â I was told that up until the early 80s there was a law that you couldn't build a building taller than William Penn. Â The year after the Phillies won the world series, they changed the law. Â The Phillies never made it to the world series again. Â This past year, they put a small 3 inch statue at the top of the tallest building and the Phillies won again. Â The curse was broken
View from our hotel room. Â Independance Hall is 2 blocks to the right. If you could have opened the window and looked out, you could have seen it. There is also the river and Ben Franklin Bridge into Jersey, but you can't see it well in the pic.
Liberty Bell with Independance Hall in the background
We walked about 20 blocks to get a Philly CheeseSteak at this place

The original cobblestone and brick are still there
I had to go to the art museum because I wanted to see the "Rocky Steps" and the statue is there also. Here we were having some fun with a fountain out in front. Some people's kids, I tell ya!

At the bar that our group took over Thursday night before the race
Gettysburg cemetery
You history buffs will know that "Pickett's Charge" was not only the turning point of the Gettysburg battle, but the turning point of the war. Â Gives me goosebumps just typing this.
Pickett's Charge happened right at this very spot. The locals say the rocks for the fence are the same rocks in the same spot they were at during the war.
This is the town of Gettysburg, where urban combat occurred as the Union started with control of the town, the Confederates took it, then the Union took it back. Pictures I saw looks like nearly all livestock was killed.

Never had scrapple before, but were told we "had" to try it. Well, we did, and we don't need to again. Not bad, just not . . . good.
Didn't have my camera with me when we went to Independance Hall, so these are from my phone

Went to the plant where Jeff's bike was made, that was pretty cool
Saw some big stacks!
The "Love" statue
This was at the art museum and was worthy of a pic.
That's all folks.

Cool pics Angie Thanks for sharing. Weather looked dry but dreary. |
It was actually very nice weather. Rained like hell on Thursday for a while, but Friday, Sat and Sun were dry and a lovely 75 degrees. When the sun came out it was hot, so I was glad the sun stayed away. I'm not into the heat anymore.
