So I took a coupla days off and took my best bud up to Lone Pine, his home town, to do some fishing. Â We took the boat to get some seat time and drown some worms in Lake Diaz. Â Diaz is about 1/2 the size of Thompson Bay, has a boat limit of five(5), and is part of the LA Aqueduct.
We get to the lake and the launch ramp is chained closed with a sign "call xxx-xxxx for assistance". Â Never seen that before, so we make the call. Â The Inyo County Ranger answers with just a "hello"...
About a half-hour later, Hot-Rod (his nickname around town) comes out and does a complete inspection of the boat, inside and out, for Quagga Mussels, along with a safety check. Â We have to fill-out a one-page document stating where and when the boat was last used (2 outings). Â Whole process took nearly 1 hour...
Since he's the only guy in town covering the various County properties that day(Thursday), we had to call to get "off" the water. Â We bring the boat out and he puts this ID strap on the boat, which certifies that it's "Mussel Free" when we get to the next lake.
Not sure if this is in effect at other California Lakes, or just applicable to the waters of the LA Aquaduct / Eastern Sierra. Â Anybody run into this at Crowley, Pyramid, Castaic, etc....

There's a 32' Cat at the old shop that's been sitting in the water at Lake Mead for nearly a year...
It's COVERED with mussels, from the waterline down. They have eaten through the gel, the drives and tie-bar are trash, etc...
Gonna be one expensive repair...

Quote (RyanBrindle @ May 31 2009,8:32 pm) | They do that little tag dealio at Big Bear and at Silverwood but its only so that if you launch there again you dont have to have the inspection done again. Â At least thats what they told me. Â Each time you have it inspected there it costs $8. |
That's a good deal there!..
