KINGMAN - The holiday weekend proved deadly to some Mohave County residents and visitors.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to a pedestrian fatality in Kingman on Thursday leading into the holiday weekend.
Sean Arthur Gerdes, 36, of Parker attempted to cross Interstate 40 at milepost 64, about 10 miles east of Kingman. He died after two vehicles struck him. The drivers were not injured.
The National Park Service reported the death of Jose Rivas, 38, of Las Vegas Sunday afternoon after his personal watercraft was struck by another personal watercraft.
Bystanders were able to pull Rivas ashore, but he lost consciousness and died soon after.
The operator of the other watercraft was arrested by Nevada game wardens for operating under the influence of alcohol.
His name has not been released.
A second personal watercraft collision on Sunday sent an 18-year-old California woman to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Judy Quintero was a passenger on a personal watercraft when she and the operator of the craft fell off.
A personal watercraft operated by a 34-year-old man from California struck Quintero in the head. She is listed in fair condition. The man operating the craft was not intoxicated and is cooperating with Bullhead Police, authorities said.
The NPS suspended the search for John Silva, 42, of El Monte, Calif., Tuesday evening. Silva jumped off a boat in Lake Mohave near Katherine Landing for a swim Monday afternoon.
Witnesses told NPS that Silva struggled for a moment, went under and did not resurface. NPS believes Silva may have drowned.
Two other weekend drownings were reported in the Colorado River between Bullhead City and Laughlin.
According to Bullhead City Police, Alberto Garcia, 40, of Colton, Calif., drowned Saturday after he went for a swim in the no-wake zone near Harrah's Resort and Casino and became entangled in a line.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported the death of Daniel Wasson, 57, Tuesday. Wasson was allegedly inappropriately touching women in the Edgewater casino arcade Sunday evening.
When approached by hotel security, Wasson took off running down the riverwalk and jumped into the river. He swam a short distance before disappearing under water. His body was recovered on Monday.
BPD dispatch received 745 calls over the weekend. Officers made a total of 34 arrests including three for DUI.
Officers also responded to one fatal, one injury and five non-injury motor vehicle accidents over the weekend.
Things faired a little better over on Lake Havasu, where there were no fatalities. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office made 20 arrests for Operating Under the Influence, responded to two boating accidents without injuries and one accident with an injury. Deputies also issued 56 citations for safety violations, 16 for criminal boating violations, one for drugs, one for domestic violence and 67 boating violation warnings.
Deputies also assisted 11 boaters, made seven agency assists and one medical assist.
Kingman Police Department and the Western Arizona DUI Task Force contacted 499 motorists over the weekend. Nineteen people were arrested on DUI charges. Of those 19 arrests, 3 arrests were for aggravated DUI. Officers also made five minor consumption arrests and issued 100 citations. The average blood alcohol concentration for motorists stopped by KPD and the task force was 0.146 percent.
