So...my daughter is graduating this month....I hope
And she has been dropping hints (if you call holding a gun to my head at the breakfast table, saying, "Buy it for me or else!" a hint! about what she would like to receive as a Graduation present.
A Laptop computer.
So....I've been keeping one eye open for deals. But there's one catch. She really, really, really (her words) had her heart set on a Mac.
So I look at the Macs. Then I quickly look away in order to save what's left of my eyesight. Damn, those dollar signs are sharp!
I then start looking at the PC based machines...but then I start to get confused. What IS a laptop? Some look like laptops, but are called Notebooks, some are "Desktop Replacements - but they sure do look a lot like a laptop to me...bigger maybe, but much the same.
Now they have these Netbooks...clearly not a Laptop...or a Notebook, but not a pocket computer or a PDA either!
So I'm still looking...and I see that now they have "Smartbooks"!
That's a cross between a Smartphone and a Netbook!...I think.
I prepared a long speech for my daughter to explain just how much more computer we (I) could buy for the money if we look at the PC products....she looks at me with those eyes..OK Daddy, if you can't afford the Mac, I understand.
Oh I needed that. I look to the wife for support. HA.
Whatever you think is best dear. Knowing full well I'll crumble without her support.
So the day is getting closer and I still haven't bought the graduation gift. I'm setting myself up to be the biggest loser, schmuck ever in my daughter's eyes.
so.....yesterday I start looking at Macs again. Now my right eye is swollen and I can barely see out of the left one.
The credit card company put a hold on my card after the first two purchases yesterday morning... seems someone was on-line buying things I don't normally buy.....expensive things.
I had to call them to reassure them that, sadly, it was me. They lift the hold and I finish my last purchase - Lojack for Laptops. She'll get a lock and a locking cabinet to go with it, but I can't be there 900 miles away to make sure she uses them. So the Lojack seems like a good idea.
So last night my wife asks me about dinner after Graduation....
....I went to the kitchen, grabbed a can of Campbell's soup and set it down in front of her and walked out of the room!
It's a fact of Life:
After Monday and Tuesday, even the Calendar says : WTF .......
