Fred Travalena Joins Latest Wave of Celebrity Deaths June 29, 2009 by Robert Dougherty
Fred Travalena was a staple of Las Vegas and the celebrity impression business, as Fred Travalena could impersonate pretty much anyone. Fred Travalena now joins the latest group of celebrities to pass away, as celebrity death continues to dominate the news.
Fred Travalena Joins Latest Wave of Celebrity Deaths This news wave of dead celebs includes Fred Travalena, Gail Storm and Billy Mays, having all died within 24 hours. For the second time in as many weeks, celebrity deaths come in threes.
Fred Travalena died like Farrah Fawcett, having lost a long battle with disease. Travalena's disease was non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which claimed him at the age of 66. Travalena was called "The Man of a Thousand Faces" for his decades of impersonations.
Travalena impersonated an alleged 360 celebrity, political, and cartoon voices over the decades in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and many more locations since the 1970's. He also did his voices on television, in specials, cartoons and on The Tonight Show.
Joining Fred Travalena in death today is actress Gail Storm, one of the most popular TV stars of the 1950's. Gail Storm died of reported natural causes at age 87, after a career in TV and music.
Gail Storm, whose real name was Josephine Cottle, once rivaled Lucille Ball as the biggest star on television, with her work in sitcoms like My Little Margie and Oh! Susanna. Storm also sang and performed on the radio.
The deaths of Travalena and Storm come one day after yet another celebrity death, this one involving TV pitchman Billy Mays. Over the years, Billy Mays was one of the pioneers for all those cliches about TV ad men and infomercial hosts. Billy Mays was made most famous for selling Orange Glo and OxiClean to millions.
Billy Mays died at 50, the same age as Michael Jackson - as their birthdays were only six weeks apart. Mays died suddenly, just like Jackson, as he didn't feel well after he hit his head during a rough airplane landing at Tampa Bay, and the cause of death is unknown.
