So our terrier mix has an infection... She's good about ear drops and topical treatments, but I just can't seem to find the "right" solution to her oral pill medication.
She's wise to: 1. Dropping it in and holding her snoot shut 2. Crumbled in peanut butter 3. Shaved in a fried egg 4. mixed with regular food
Any suggestions...
And,no Glassman, rectal is NOT an option...

I bet I can get her to take her med orally. Its all in the placement of the pill way back in the mouth at the throat back of the tongue. I have had to do it a lot. Even on cats. Not fun or pleasant but something that you have to do. Call me and I will walk you through it. Again its not pleasant but it's for her own good to get the meds.

Well, that may be TMI about glassmans rectal injection technique....
Have you considered a paintball gun?? Â
just kidding, of course....
We use a blender/food processor to blend in the meds with egg yolks and mix it with their regular food......seems to work in these parts......
although using the paintball gun rectally seems an interesting possibility as well......
 Â
Good luck Gary! Â Just be glad its not a cat!!

I like the paintball idea... Maybe give the egg yolk mix it in a whirl.... She's just gettin' old and cranky...like her owner...

The back of the tongue works for one of my dogs, but the other is wise to it now. One thing that always works is liverwurst. I envelope the pill with the wurst and make it into a little ball. My dogs are bigger though, and they just swallow the whole thing and don't even taste it. I make them do a trick first, then give them a treat. Sounds like you've tried that sort of thing already, though.

ha, that's funny...
...what if you have a dog that thinks he's human?
My dog hates dog food. He'll sit there and give me the "look".....as if he's saying, "I'd like to see you eat that first".
He gets some lean beef, mostly chicken with rice and veggies. He loves veggies In bulk it costs about the same as buying dog food. I don't go for the "Raw" approach that some do. And I don't like feeding him stuff with color enhancers like iron oxide and sodium nitrate, and food with chemicals like propylene glycol or color enhancers, and lots of sugar
It's a fact of Life:
After Monday and Tuesday, even the Calendar says : WTF .......
