So our terrier mix has an infection... :beat   She's good about ear drops and topical treatments, but I just can't seem to find the "right" solution to her oral pill medication.

She's wise to:
1.  Dropping it in and holding her snoot shut
2.  Crumbled in peanut butter
3.  Shaved in a fried egg
4.  mixed with regular food

Any suggestions... :stupid

And,no Glassman, rectal is NOT an option... :laugh

Well, that may be TMI about glassmans rectal injection technique....

Have you considered a paintball gun??   :laugh

just kidding, of course....

We use a blender/food processor to blend in the meds with egg yolks and mix it with their regular food......seems to work in these parts......

although using the paintball gun rectally seems an interesting possibility as well......

:laugh  :D  :good

Good luck Gary!  Just be glad its not a cat!!

I bet I can get her to take her med orally. Its all in the placement of the pill way back in the mouth at the throat back of the tongue. I have had to do it a lot. Even on cats. Not fun or pleasant but something that you have to do. Call me and I will walk you through it. Again its not pleasant but it's for her own good to get the meds.

No...I don't go there.....I'd get bit!  :laugh

I know a way...it ain't cheap. It involves steak.  :good

Nice piece of medium rare steak. Give her a tiny piece, then take another, make a slit in it and slip the pill inside, give it to her followed by another.

They don't have time to think when they are in the killer carnivore mode!  :D

Works every time. Chicken works too if they like that...and they usually do.  :p

The back of the tongue works for one of my dogs, but the other is wise to it now.  One thing that always works is liverwurst.  I envelope the pill with the wurst and make it into a little ball.  My dogs are bigger though, and they just swallow the whole thing and don't even taste it.  I make them do a trick first, then give them a treat.  Sounds like you've tried that sort of thing already, though.

Yeah, the carnevore mode works best for us too. We use a hotdog most times, cut up into 1" pieces or so. Stuff the pill into one of the pieces then give them to her as treats. Without time to think Roxy just swallows cuz she sees another "treat" ready to be inhaled... :)

Ain't life Grand? Treat it that way.

ha, that's funny...

...what if you have a dog that thinks he's human?  :stupid

My dog hates dog food. He'll sit there and give me the "look".....as if he's saying, "I'd like to see you eat that first".  :laugh

He gets some lean beef, mostly chicken with rice and veggies. He loves veggies  :good  In bulk it costs about the same as buying dog food. I don't go for the "Raw" approach that some do.
And I don't like feeding him stuff with color enhancers like iron oxide and sodium nitrate, and food with chemicals like propylene glycol or color enhancers, and lots of sugar  :puke

Have you tried these?  My vet swears by them, as do other folks I know.  You can get them at Petsmart, Petco etc.

Our cats LOVE greenies, so I'm hoping the pill pockets will work if I ever need them.

Sorry for the big pics, too lazy to look for smaller ones. :laugh
