Bashas' Files Bankruptcy -- No Local Stores Closing
TRI-STATE - Bashas' supermarkets in Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, Kingman and Needles will stay open following a Chapter 11 filing earlier this week by the Arizona-based chain.  Following the filing, officials announced the  closing of ten Bashas' and Food City stores, effective July 21st. No stores in the Tri-State area are on that list.

Some 10,700 employees work for the privately held chain, with sales of $1-billion a year. Five stores were closed earlier this year and employees at its corporate office were also let go, totaling about 1,700 positions throughout the company. Bashas' is a family business which first opened in 1932. There are currently 156 stores in Arizona -- 158 total.
The latest round of closures this month means another 1,000 Bashas' employees will be unemployed.

I rarely used Basha's when in Havi, mainly due to location for me, but even when I did it didn't seem to be competetively priced for certain goods.
I didn't know Food City was a Bashas subsidery....you can get some decent stuff there for a bargain.

We tend to eat pretty well, and when you buy good ingreadients it doesn't matter where you get your stuff, the prices are nearly identical.  Any more I like to go get meat at Basha's, seems they usually have better stuff and you can get things like lamb  there.  Where as places like Fry's has a couple steaks, some hamburger, maybe chicken and that's about it.

Now when you are buying crap, yeah there's some money to be saved.

The South Havasu store is still the number one store in the state for sales.  :beer  Some of the best fish I've ever had came out of there.

Anyone used the Food City in Havasu near where the old walmart was?
We've used it on a few occasions when we happened to be near it......just have to be picky on what you buy, can't get everything there. Prices were pretty cheap.
Here at home we have a place called Grocery Outlet, can save a poopload of dough over the chain stores but again you have to be picky and not expect to get everything there.
