It drives me nuts!  :pissed

I don't know how to fix it either. I have to hit the mute button or lower the volume every time a commercial comes on.

Is there some device that will do it for me?

Will a complaint with the FCC help?

I know they are doing it on purpose to get your attention...I refuse to buy any of the offender's products....maybe I need to write a letter to each one of them? :beat

I feel your pain.  I listen to a lot of radio and I'm always changing the channel when the commercials come on.  Not because I hate commercials, but because 90% of the time, the ad guy is YELLING at me.  I don't want to be yelled at.  Yelling at me is not going to make me buy your product.  I know they are trying to sound excited, but it's not excitement.  Mattress and car ads are the worst when it comes to this. Others are beginning to follow suit.

It's not just you, your house, or your television.
Some stations are worse than others. I can barely hear the show, then the commercial BLASTS !!!!!!!!!

I believe some tv's have a feature to help keep the volume level ?

Yep new TV's have that feature :good But since I just got 2 new ones less than a year ago it'll have to wait.

Stations run national feeds that tend to have the audio clipped for uniformity/transmission.  Local station fills in with commericals that have NO audio threshold...hence the ear drum blasting... :beat  :guns

What's worse is that many of the fringe digital channels are actually captured via satellite...and they just pipe 'em in without any baseline modulation... :banghead

We just DVR everything...that way we don't have to watch ANY commericals... :good  :laugh

I heard someone say they upped the volumes of commercials because they knew everyone was leaving the room during them and they wanted the viewer to hear the commercial from the rest of the house.

I can remember way back on an older VCR there was a feature that would try to eliminate commercials by not recording them.  Worked sometimes, but instead of shutting off the recording during the commercials and resuming for the show, it just recorded a blue screen.  Lame but nice first attempt.
Like shue said, we DVR everything and skip the bogus commercials.  Some times we will join a program 15 minutes into it  and start if over just so we can ffw thru the commercials.

In the greater LA area, CBS 2 is the worst by far.  Some of the cable channels are pretty bad too.  Up in the Sacto area the NBC station is too soft, can't figure that one out at all.

I had caught a blurb about it on the news when I was housesitting for my folks in June...then promptly forgot that I wanted to tell them about it until about a week or so ago. :rolleyes  :laugh  :laugh   We've had the loud commericals discussion a lot, it's a pet peeve in our family.

My wife hates how the commercials are all so loud, I personally can tune it out/ignore it ...............although, you have to admit some commercials are more entertaining than the current TV shows :laugh
