I mentioned Dumont in the last thread.
I take my kids there every Thanksgiving/ New Years/ winter Holidays.
It's about 35 miles north of Baker, Calif. You know Baker, it's the town you usually pass through heading to 'Vegas. Has the worlds largest Thermometer.
Ya drive through the main drag of Baker, and turn at the Mad Greek restaurant and head to Dumont.
Completely different than the famous Glamis Dunes. Dumont has dunes several times taller. The Competition Hill at Dumont, called the wall by the legends, is easily 4 times taller than the comp hill at Glamis.
The Glamis Comp Hill is closed on big weekends becuase of troublemakers,, no so at Dumont. A really fun place to hang out at night and take in the action. High powered machinery and dune legends and a  friendly party atmosphere.
The Dumont crowd parties with the best of them,, and is much friendlier. The cops respond to all compliants, and jerks are hooked up and hauled off immediatly, their rides impounded.
I suggest RVing it, or take a room at a Stateline Hotel (Primm Nevada),, and daytrip it to Dumont.
Absolutely positively no services at Dumont. Two pit toilets that I know of, that's it. So bring some food.
If ya get stuck, you're at the mercy of fellow duners to get ya out. A far, far nicer crowd than at Glamis so getting help is usually no problem. I carry tow straps to help others.
Tent camping is only for serious tent campers. Windstorms can be right out of the bible. Unbelieveable force, and frequent.
Most cellphones work at the top of the big dunes or near the highway. If ya have an RV, and would ever like to join our group, you're welcome.
I'll check back into this forum this season with more stories and pics of Dumont.
