I posted this on another board for someone who was looking at new quads, but it'll give you an idea of what my thoughts on the matter are:
It all depends on what you want to $$$$$. If you're looking for a low maintenance deal, I'd look really hard at a 4 stroke as they seem to be trouble free for the most part.
I'd stay away from the Blaster and it's more of a kid's quad (read slow turd) not to mention the fact that it's 2 stroke air cooled with an auto oil injector that is notorious for failing and leaving you stranded. That is, by the time you realized it quit working, it's only because the piston siezed.
The Warrior isn't a bad ride. Thumper, electric start and all that good stuff, but kind of old school thumper and rather heavy.
I've ridden the 400EX and while they are a nice bike, I wasn't horribly impressed with the performance of them. They make a good all around bike, but are horribly underpowered for a screaming fast dune ride.
The thumper I've been most impressed with (with an exception) is the Rapturd. They flat haul ass, but you can also putt around on them without the risk of fouling out plugs and loading up really bad like the Banshee. I've found my quad runs best hauling ass. No ifs ands or buts about it.
The exception to the Rapturd would be the new Honda quad with the 450F motor in it. I haven't ridden it, but have heard lots of good things about it. Supposed to be kind of a throwback to the 250R's of old.
The Cannondales they were making for a while were pretty bad ass, race ready out of the box. The downside to those was the $12,000 price tag, not to mention the fact that they quit making them.
Like I said, it's all about how much you want to spend. Also, now really isn't a good time to buy a quad as it's the start of sand season and all the prices just went up. Kind of like not buying a boat in May.
To sumarize, I'd be torn between the new Honda and the Rapturd. I'd say go to a dealer and sit on each one, take them for a ride and see which one you're more comfortable on.
If I were you, I'd look at going with something that you'll be able to twist a little harder as you get more comfortable with, rather than buy something that's underpowered and you'll be bored with in no time.
Everyone is a tough guy, until you meet one. Â
