thanks for the input.. i havn't really looked at too many others yet. i have a friend with a 400 suzuki and it was ok.. but i wanted more power. in the past i have had 3 wheelers.. an '86 honda 250r and an '86 honda 350x along with various dirt bikes. i have ridden a banshee and it was pretty quick... but 2 strokes are becomming a thing of the past these days it seems. i live in the high desert in So. Cal near el mirage and i and i can pretty much ride year round in the local mountains around me. i still need to do some shopping around to find out where to get the best buy. the friend who bought it 400 picked it up in Lake Havasu City and it was cheaper out the door then if he had bought it in So Cal...

Quote | My son has a 450 and it's a killer! Talk about something that kicks ass straight from the showroom! |
its really that quick?? now just to be sure is the the honda 450r or another make your talking about? im 42 and a big ol' boy 6' 270 lbs.. except from the end of november to the middle of january i may run a little bigger... a mans got to eat over the holidays!! anyway im looking for something with lots of power to haul my big butt up and over any sand dune or hill and that has a good suspension.
is that 450 a lot faster then the suzuki 400 i rode? becuase that one was ok.. but just didn't scare me.. if something doesn't scare me at least a little bit when i first get on it.. i know its not gonna work out and is that 450 a 2 or 4 stroke?
i ride mostly in the mountains here where i live.. cruise the fire roads, run trails.. once or twice a year i get out to the dunes.. either glamis or dumont.
i really appreciate the info you guys have given me on this.

where talking about the yamaha yfz 450. electric start, 11.9:1 compression, dual overhead cam, five titanium valves, etc. yes, it kicks the z400's ass. no comp. my friend is a big boy that(6'2" 250# or so) has a 400. he tried my 450(on pavement though) and seemed pretty impresssed. some folk seem to feel that the raptor is more user friendly for cruising, trails, etc. the raptors way bigger. the 450 was designed as an mx track deal. 4 stroke.
