Cool stuff. Brings back a lot of memories of wrenching on a few cars that went to Firebird and Phoenix(thats Speedworld now) Back in the late 70's and most of the 80's. I knew quite a few folks back then.

I have a '69 Olds that I put together to play out at the strip with. Nothing serious, just a toy. A friend of mine came up with a '69 Grand Prix with a 400/400 in it. I took the motor and trans out and put it in the Cutlass, dirt and all. The only thing not stock on it was the cheap set of headers. I put a used set of 10x29x15 slicks on it, with the 2:73 open geared rear end, it was running 14.0s @98 mph. I shifting into high gear right at the MPH lights on the tall end of the track. Not the fasteset, but fun for the money spent, and I figured if something happened to it, it was no biggie.

The blue dragster in the clip is very consistent good super class car 530 CI, alcohol, low 7 sec not cheap. I dont know how much Rob's got in it but im sure it's allot, any ways we raced the S/C race one night and lost RED LIGHT so we got in the Gambler " race what you got " and got beat buy a high school kid in a beat to shit late 80's mustang that ran 16's. Kid had been running 16.01-16.05 all night, Rob took the stripe at the big end but the kid ran 15.90 double breakout Kid was less under his dial so he won. Goes to show you money and a fast car does not make you win. To make matters worse the kid had a broken leg, in a cast up to his hip on crutches... Rob couldent even beat a cripple

Way cool pics. Back in '71, while in high school, I worked for Reath Automotive in Long Beach. Reath was the main sponsor for Big Jim Dunn in the Dunn/Reath Funnycar. In fact, I detailed the engine block which Dunn won with at the Winternationals that year. I was also responsible for his exploding motor in Tulsa a few races before that. I just didn't clearance the rods very well and they grenaded the block when they hit 9000 rpm. Sorry Big Jim.
I hope this post didn't make me a PWC'er

Break out the pics Art. I love Drag Racing watching the Toyo NHRA nats right now |
Here's a few I dug up of the car we ran, got tons of pics from back then!..
We campained this 23Altered all thru the 80's until the County closed up. We ran Quick32 every Sat night and we we're on the track team!..Pics aren't the greatest, no digital back then, Â
I could take this car apart and put it back together in my sleep!..
This was the alky motor a 468, that was a big motor back then, we ran 8.20's 162mph!..
This was our gas motor for serious stuff, a 440 ran 9.0's 138. We used this for the Quick32 and the team races!..
You couldn't get a better consistent car at the time!..
The alky motor was fun but not as consistent so we just played with this one. Notice the scoop on the injectors, we made different sizes and styles and for some reason they never made a difference!..
Could do some cool burnouts with it!..
