Stumbled onto this on C/L couldn't turn it down!. This is one solid truck not one rattle, and the only rust is in the normal place on the fenders and it's minimal, patch panels came with it along with all the rubber, the floor is perfect no rust at all, normally these all need a new floor!. The front end has been rebuilt, the back has new coils(3"lower)shocks and adjustable panhard bar!.. The bed is almost perfect, of course the wood needs replacing, it's original. The dash is in good shape but looks like somebody rattle can it with white Krylon or something, Yukk. So the plan is, the bed is coming off, the front end is coming off for a total clean up, disk brakes will be added with drop spindles!. The six banger will be replaced with a small block and TH400 unless I can find a 700R, if not a Gear Vendor will end up behing the 400!. The worst part will be removing about three layers of paint, should be fun!.

Not at all, he wanted $2400 but had cash in hand, got it for $2100!. I looked at a lot of them and most in that price range were barely a parts truck.

Quote (Carrera Elite @ July 31 2007,3:46 pm) | If you don't mind going to a 5on 5 bolt circle, the disc brakes from a 73-87 will bolt right in, and you can get drop springs, spindles and A-Arms for it!! Then just use s diff. from a 71-72. the only thing that may need to change is the Panhard bar, I don't remember when they changed to the short bar..... |
That is the plan to go 5 on 5, all the kits I looked at uses 73-87 stuff, should be a piece of cake to change over!.. Now on the back, can't I just change the backing plates and drums for the smaller brakes with 5 on 5 bolt pattern instead of swapping the whole rear end??. I haven't looked yet but I need to find a rebuild kit for the power steering ram, it is a leaker right now!.. If I get a chance maybe I'll yank the bed off this weekend!..

By the time you get done buying the axels, drums, and backing plates, you probably could have bought a complete differential.......

Why not change it to a power streering box?? I have a ram in the back yard, I think, but it's probably in the same condition..... |
I thought about that, but I don't want to be welding and drilling the frame, I read an article on that and it said you have to weld a bracket to the frame for the steering box and move the pitman arm and something else??..
