I'm new to this forum and have used many before. I'm sure, somewhere, other posters have talked about this issue but here it goes anyway...
My boat...2004 Magic 28 cat, Merc 525HP, XR drive, twin Imco steering, 253 hours on the boat.
I had just left Moabi and was headed south back toward Havasu. I had 7 on board (all skinnie folks, lol) and was only going about 50mph. I got about a mile away from Moabi when the drive seemed to "let go" (stopped moving the boat) The rpm's went up, as would be the case if the drive wasn't in gear.
I stopped, shut it down, looked for gear oil (none seen in or out), and then sobbed...ok I cussed!
I then fired it back up and tried to put it in drive to make sure it didn't just pop out for some reason. I GOT NO FORWARD MOTION. Then I tried reverse and it worked, but with gear noise. I limped it to a beach and got towed back by the Vessel Assist rip-off artists.
Now it seems I need to find someone who may have had this similar issue. I hear about drives going out all the time. Once I find out what it "might" be, I need to find an outdrive repair shop that I can trust not to rip me off since I'm only a part-time resident in Havasu, and live in California.
Any and all help would be aprreciated.
Thanks!! :beer

Chris and his crew at Presitge are excellent but also expensive. I think I would try Peter Chong first. Also the infamous AJ has left Savage and opened his own shop. No idea on costs but his work is sure to be perfect.

Lot's of choices out there.
I have used "The Boat Guys" in Mohave Valley before for outdrive repair in the past. Did good work, and reasonably priced.
Good luck to ya'.....and welcome to Doug's!  :good

It might be kinda late but i figured i would chime in anyway just in case.  Lol.

Absolute Speed & Marine in Havasu have done good work for me in the past.  Not to pricey but comparable to most performance shops...   If you're in Cali....Alex is in Ontario and is a great mechanic that works on my boat here.  PM me if you want his info.

Of any and all shops in Havi. I'd but Absolute at the bottom of the list. They'd be long gone already if it wasn't for a few "investers" helping them out.  :beat

BTW, hey Arron, look closely,  :finger

Yeah....I know..... I've heard that about him.  Its like he only takes care of the people he has a connection too.  Otherwise, everybody else can take a hike.  Luckily, I knew someone who knew him really well.  Lol.

Pay attention to the boats he works on. 99% upgrades or swaps, and installing new stuff. He doesn't know how to "Fix" anything. Go buy a new XR and he'll gladly install it.
