I have a Dominator jet in my '78 Challenger. I think it's a model 12S. Anyway, there is neither a lube canister or Zerk fitting to lube the thrust bearing on it. Has anyone installed one themselves?  :confused

Doug,

I have never worked on a Dominator so I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once. :D

According to my jet pump rebuilding book both the 12S and the 12TD have a jet lube canister.  It should be located on the front part of the suction piece around the bearing. If you are looking over your transom at the jet it should be on the Right side. If you do not have a fitting or a lube canister there should be an empty threaded hole there.

The 12S has the hand hole in the boat and the 12TD has the hand hole outside the boat.

Thanks Miller,

It sounds like you have "Marine Jet Drive" by Seloc Publications just like I do, but my drive doesn't have the lube cannister, a Zerk fitting, or even a hole.  I'm sure a hole can be drilled and tapped, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to pull the drive to do it.  I think I might do some damage if I try with it in though. :(

That seems strange that it doesn't have anything. Does it look like it was filled in at one time? I find it hard to believe that they originally made it that way unless they are using a sealed bearing that does not need to be lubed. I would give dominator a call on that one.

And yes we are reading the same book. But don't forget that I have stayed in a Holiday Inn Express! :D

I guess I should have taken some pics of it today, but I don't recall any evidence of a hole.  I'll visit her tomorrow though and check again.  I haven't seen her in awhile anyway. :(  She's stored indoors, but not at my house.

That's no fun you can't sit in her and drink beer when you are bored.   ;)

When I rented a duplex, I stored her outside next to the garage.  I sat in her many days and nights thinking about the river, while drinking beer and listening to the tunes. When I rented a home and at the home I owned, I did the same thing while she was stored in the garage.  This house has too much in the garage already, so she's stored remotely. :(

Yeah I got some good news today.  Thanks Miller. :D  When I visited Miss American Pie in her temporary quarters, I found a fitting. I was dark and I didn't have a flashlight with me, but I felt where the fitting should be and it was there. :D

Now you need to put some Grease in it! It sounds like it has been a while since she has been lubed.  :D

Yeah definitely! :) 40 strokes according to the book.  The last time it was lubed was when it was serviced at GS Marine, but I'm not sure how many hours ago that was.

My Dominator is a model 12S.  The only text reference material I have on it is "Marine Jet Drive" by Seloc Publications.  It calls for "an extreme pressure high temperature moly disulphide grease, such as Pennzoil 704, Kendall L-424, or equivalent".  "Multi-purpose" grease is NOT to be used.  I'm going to look into getting a "lube cannister" for it, too, because mine currently doesn't have one.
