So whats the diff between these BBC heads? I've read the 781's have a little smaller intake runners but same valve/chamber size :stupid

Well I've never CC'd the 781's only the 049's but here's what More-Tec lists them as!. :stupid

A little more compression from the 781's but ya lose a little on the exhaust side.  :stupid

I've never run the 781's but I bet a quick cleanup with the grinder would make them awful close to 049's!. If the price was right I'd use em!.. :good

We'll see how the old Ebay dealio goes. I'm being a cheap bastard on this head shopping gig. I'll find a set soon enough.

I need to get my 049's over to the shop to see what its going to cost to replace the seat and valve, or if they can be fixed.

Well this is all I could find on them, they are a simi open chamber head but they may have the smog style chambers, you'd have to look at the chambers and ports to tell!..How much for them??.. :stupid

So it looks like they are heavy duty truck heads... hmmm, I'll probably pass on 'em

He didn't mention how much, plus I'd have to ship them, so I'd say they wouldn't be worth it.  I'll keep looking for some 049's.

You're welcome!. :good If you're going to go with a factory iron oval head, the 049's are the best you can get. With the big valves and a clean up I've seen 500hp easy with a 454!.. :good
