Thanks,

Here lately most peeps are using gelcoat, I took some advice from an old timer and used an oil based latex. Came out really nice and easy to touch up.

If you do it yourself just remember if you think its cleaned, prepped and ready to paint do it one more time. Prep is everything :good

Your boat may deserve the gelcoat, but my bilge was a total wreck after 24 years. Heres a pic of it after the spruce up. I'll dig up some better pics later.

AZKC, that's exactly what I'm looking for.  Right now my bilge is painted with that stuff, real thick and very opaque (not shiny) right?  THe floor on both sides of the bilge is carpet and all the other surfaces (transom and interior sides) are just raw layup.  The carpet is nasty so I want to paint the whole compartment to match the bilge just like you did. :beer

My boat is alot like yours, except it's red :D   So I'm looking for oil base latex then.

Thanks,

Mirvin  :good

Clean that garbage out and see what the floor looks like, if it's real bad and has a lot of bad cracks, grind them out and fill them with cloth and resin, sand it down smoothe and then gel coat it with the color you want, that's what I'm getting ready to do with mine now!.. :good

Sleek your a funny Focker :bebe  :ass  Although your right  :laugh

Mirvin, When I did mine I used that primer/sealer stuff called KILZ after I had cleaned it real good with Dawn. Make sure its dry of course before putting down the sealer. Let that dry and then lay down the latex.

Felt kind of wierd walking around Home Depot with a picture of my boat trying to match the color. I bought a gallon and I have a life time supply for touch up. And enough to do the trim in our bathroom :laugh

I don't know if I can convert over to a 4 point or if its worth it. The bell housing clamps to the pump. Unhooking the motor from the pump is quite the adventure. Steering cable won't let you slide the bellhousing out enought to get on the bolts without busting a few knuckles. Thinking about hole-sawing some access holes in it but worried a little about strength :stupid

Probably, but I'm not kewl with the flywheel spinning around in the open. I know a couple of guys that have some of the rear mount flat bellhousing for the 4 points, I even have one but its for the Tahiti project.

Mine is in the open, nobody goes back there though!. :D I did a conversion like that once, I made a plate then I got one of those clunker cast bellhousing mounts and whacked the ears off and ground it down and polished it, never knew that was ever a full mount, looked pretty cool too!.. :good
