Any one know how to remove old dried up carpet adhesive from the hull???  I pulled up the old carpet in the back of the boat and am going to gel coat it, but I've got to get up the old adhesive first.

Any suggestions???  :stupid  :confused

Thats what I thought, was just hoping someone had some sort of miracle stuff to take up that old adhesive.  Sounds like sanding this weekend.  :jumpie

I've actually got most of it up, there is just a few stuborn spots to work out.

The next question is; Do I need to put down a layer of resin over the parts that are a little thin, or can I just put the gel coat over it??  It looks like the years of soaking in the oil/dirt/gas concotion in the bottom of the boat took it's toll, that and the orbital sander didn't help either. :D  :rolleys

If you grinded down into the cloth anywhere, you should put some resin on first then flow coat it. Also, if you had to go beyond the cloth to get any rot out, you will have to build it back up first!.. :)

I didn't get through the cloth anywhere, just exposed some in a few places.

That's what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure before I went and bought a bunch of supplies.
