Quote (miller19j @ Feb. 27 2004,3:03 pm) | I posted this over a River Rats. But realized that some of the people over here don’t go over there. So I thought I would share it with you guys.
I am not sure if this is really custom but it is a project I am working on and it has some machining involved. I wanted to put a hydraulic place diverter into my boat and didn’t want those dangling coils hanging from the trim switch. So I decided to run the wires through the center of my steering column.
I started by disassembling the steering column and mounting the shaft in the lathe to drill the 12 deep hole through it. Â
Then I mounted the wheel mounting plate in the mill so I could ball mill a slot for the wires.

After Machining the slot

The assembled unit on the boat

Test fitting so you can see how the wire is run through the slot and then the center of the steering column.

Completed unit no dangling wires here.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures it was a little dark in the garage |
Thanks for posting this Brad , I saw it over at RRL and I was going to ask you if you would post it over here!. That's a very cool setup!..

That wouldn’t be a problem I saved the jug just in case I had to do it again for someone.   |
Nice job Miller Â
You should really lay off the "grape juice" when milling.  I know ya make it and it probably doesn't cost you much and all but   .... while milling is just   |
