I am in the middle of reconstuction on my boat and had new stringers and floor put in and need to remount engine. I assume the engine needs to be as dead on as you can get it, correct?

What kind of driveline do you have?, solid or u-joint?. If you have a solid one you have to be dead nuts but if you have a u-joint, check out this article it explains the basics of a u-joint driveline!. Driveline Basics!

Well I guess I should have looked at your Avatar , I take it that's your boat!.That means the motor is all the way back and you're using an H-Bar so that means you will need to be pretty well dead on, just remember though that any angle will have to be constant or you'll get a vibration!..

No...really.  Mrs BBT is proud of the fact that she can pull/install a boat motor.  She's done it many times and had a great teacher   |
Oh yeah, "Yea MrBBT is a slave driver" well I see a message here!..

Quote (Big H @ Mar. 01 2004,12:52 am) | Actually it's good info.
I'm in the middle of pulling a hydro-locked 460 and swapping for my 454. Needed a real motor. I'm not fixing no stinking Ford
Myself included needs good info on the setting up of motor mount angles. Checked the link above already...anything else available? Â |
How about a pic of your setup!.
Damn too bad you're so far away, I could use that FoMoCo!.

I guess I should check my post more often.. I have a u-joint setup, which in my mind is going to be a weak point, but I am only running 340 hp. What do you guys think? Should I go solid or not? Getting engine dead on is a pain with solid mounts but is ok.. I am used to doing them in v-drives and straight drive inboards here. Some as big as 1200 hp MAN diesels with 12" shaft couplings and 4 inch shafts.. Thanks

I'm sure you just have an H-Bar, that will be fine with that power. They are capable of a lot more!..
