Well it's getting close to another engine in the boat time and was wondering if the moly assembly lube is all you guys use during assembly :stupid . Or do you use oil, white grease or what?

I am no expert by any means but I used Isky Rev Lube when I put mine together (it was recommended by my machinist). It can be used for everything from the mains to the cam bearings, everything. I forgot what was in it but it had some sort of high tech lubricant that infused into the metal. Pretty impressive stuff!

I also use Isky Rev Lube, been using it for over 20 years mainly because I used to live down the street from Isky and they used to give it away but it is the shit, nothing special about it, it has Moly Sulphide in it, if you look at it under a microscope, it looks like a pile of BBs. But any other assembly lube works just as good!...Never use oil because oil runs away and by the time you're ready to fire the motor, everything is dry. The only place I use oil is on the pushrod tips, assembly lube is thick and it will plug up the hole and it will take too long for oil to flow up unto the rockers. Besides when you pump oil pressure up before you fire the motor you should have oil flowing at all the rockers so they will have plenty of oil on the tips!.. :good

BTW, I use a dab of ATF on the piston skirts as a precaution against scuffing at first fire. The ATF will burn clean instantly so rings can seat!.. :good

Back in the day :p  when you couldn't get rings to seat you could put Comet in the cylinder and it would help :break

I thought they used Bon-Ami, I don't believe it has any soap in it, like Comet does.  That's what I was told by on old Chevy mechanic. :D

Come to think of it I used oil on the pushrods and ATF on the skirts (per my machinist’s recommendations). I guess my machinist subscribes to the Gofast Theory as well…..Come to think of it he was an old guy too  :rotflmao  :bebe  :D

I can't see putting a $5k + motor into a boat that I can only get $2500.00 for turnkey :stupid   I'll probably end up putting the 455 Olds in the tahiti eventually, but then I have to worry about the interior and paint....Probably better to sell it how it is right now.  The only boats that I have that I want to spend more $$ on are the 2 Biesemeyers :D

The only boat that I had that was strictly a race boat, was the CP Tunnel that I had.  But I split the hull down BOTH stringers and then sold it.  The guy only wanted the hardware for it for his new boat.  I see that he is trying to sell the CP now on HB for $4500.00 I believe, and he hasn't fixed the bottom.  I'd avoid that one like the plague :rolleyes

I also have the old Kona boat that we raced with APBA years ago.  We will be restoring that and keeping it.  We'll be putting a BBC in that one.....Naturally :D  But, I don't really want to spend any $$ on it.  Would much rather restore Mrs BBT's Biesemeyer Daycruiser and then do some more work on the Biesemeyer Flat (Add Boost :eek ) :D  :good
