Jordy, first get a good steel prop puller from Mike. The prop is on a taper and with that blown motor it could be real tight, if the prop hasn't been off in a long time(people are lazy and won't take them off when towing, that's probably why it's nicked) it will take effort. With a good puller usually you can put a grunt on it then give it a whack with a hammer and it should break loose. If you put heat on it don't get it red hot, you'll change the heat treating, I never use heat myself..If that fails, I have a slide hammer deal that I made for that, all you have to do is pull the shaft!..Let me know, I'll get ya squared away!..

Quote (jordanpaulk @ Mar. 23 2004,9:13 am) | Now there was mention made of the prop being to far away from the prop strut, like an inch or so. Â Are there different props that have a longer barrel to get up closer or does the shaft need to be shortened? Â I heard that they are supposed to be pretty close to each other to cut down on the stress on that part of the shaft. |
Mine is 1" behind the strut and it's fine. If you get the prop too much farther back it gets hard on the strut bushing and it also drops the prop lower which will lift the tail. Right now the thing to do is get the prop off and get it checked and repaired. Then try it out the way it is and see how the boat handles before you start moving things around. If it works, don't fix it, if it don't work then we start looking. That boat is badass and it had to be built right, seems like the previous owner just didn't give a shit about it, what a shame! I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it!..

Quote (jordanpaulk @ Mar. 23 2004,7:54 pm) | OK, after I crawled back under there with a fresh perspective and a prop puller, it's actually only 1/2" or so back from the prop strut. Â Amazing how easy it came off with the prop puller. Â I'm going to run the prop down to Bergeron and see what Brian and Phil have to say about it and go from there.
I had it out on Sunday and it really seemed to run wet. Â It was rather choppy, but if I put the cav plates down it would just about bury the nose in the chop. Â Water would break up over the bow. Â All the way up it never really seemed loose. Â I know it's heavier and not prone to fly like a 19' flat bottom. Â I could really notice a difference in the plates but it seemed to have much more down than up. |
Jordy, if the prop is only a 1/2' away from the strut that's cool!.. You said the prop is all dinged up, that will screw up the ride big time, sounds like the plates are responding though which is good! Is there a name on the prop??. Bergeron is not a prop man, he would just send it out to get the dings taken out and take all your $$$$$$$$. If there's a name on the prop, I'd send it to them and get it checked and repaired and try it and see what happens. If there's no ID on it, I would send it to Kindsvator, he's been around forever and knows his shit and he will make sure that it's right!..

Whether it's a flat, jet, tunnel, cruiser, all have theyr'e own characteristics, none of them are comparable, you just have to learn and get used to what you have!..
