As the saying goes "when it rains, it pours"...

Had the boat out yesterday, and it fired right up after unloading. The motor wasnt prefectly dialed in yet, but it was about 98% there.

After spending a few hours out, we decided to take one more ride. The motor started making a knocking sound (more on that in a minute) and started running rough, with a hell of a loud noise coming from the passenger side header, and then promptly died. There was also a small amount of steam coming out from the oil cap.

It fired again long enough for me to limp it back to the ramp at about 1800 rpm. I checked the oil, and sure enough, it was frothy white/brown. I am guessing a blown head gasket. I am pretty sure that the knocking that I heard was water being thrown up against the valve cover. It was most definitely not a rod.

On a lighter note, my new cellunoid apparently wasnt telling my newly rebuilt starter to shut off, and that fried as well just as I got back to the ramp. If you have never smelled a fried starter, let me assure you that it stinks to high heaven!!!

BigBoys, I know how you feel. DD's previously bulletproof motor apparently has a black cloud over it that isnt ready to leave just yet. Back to the shop I go..... :angry  -DD Out

Thanks. I am making a trip to Central Washington on Sat to have the guy that originally built the motor back in 1992 do the work. He knows it inside and out. Should have it back before I leave for SoCal on June 30th. Hey, at least I have been getting some killer gas mileage my last 2 trips out!!!  :laugh -DD Out

Dave, whether or not you have the boat with you, we'll need to get together for a few. :beer

I hope you get it fixed soon though. :D
