Well, started the boat again last night, with water this time, and I got's a bad instake manifold gasket.
A new starter (perm mag high torque) is ordered and enroute as we speak.
That water pump flat kicks ass. I almost got KC soaked (he should have been standing about a foot to the left ) I'm gonna need to rig up a longer hose so I can set the bucket on the ground. Art do you have any -12 push-on stuff in stock? I need about 6 feet of hose, a male union, and 1 hose end.
Oh yeah, I'm going to need a differnet motor-plate made or mine modified, to put the mechanicle fuel pump on it.

If you have a pump that pumps that much, you may need to enlarge the dump otherwise you'll have too much pressure in the block and that will cause milkskhakes big time. Don't forget, when you're at speed your'e adding more pressure from force feed!...I'm sure I have what you need, I'll check and see!....The mechanical pump goes on the timing chain cover, you should have provisions for that aready. But it's no big deal to make it work. Get a chance take a pic of the area!..

Ok cool, I think I know what you're talking about, if that's the case, it's an easy fix. Â
The only thing you will need to check for is the excentric for the fuel pump. If they nevr ran a mecanical pump, it may be missing!. (please excuse the spelling, pain meds don't let me see straight ) should be done with that shit tomorrow!..

OK, here's a couple pics.
The front motor plate, that needs to be machined down to clear the fuel pump. Â You can see where the pump goes on the timing cover
Another
OK, here's a pic of the plumbing. Â It's a -14 input and out of the pump, the -8 into the block. Â -8 to the T-Valve and -8 overboard. Â (I think, and it's a bad pic as well, but you get the idea )

That's no problem, that's an easy fix, no need for a new plate. From the pic it looks like you may have to move the coil a bit though!..

Quote (Sleek-Jet @ June 26 2004,7:41 pm) | OK, now a V-drive newby question. Â To engage the V-drive, do I need to lower the lever on the drive while the engine is in gear?? Â I can't get it down when the engine is off.
|
Since you don't have a whirlaway, it looks like you have the old two dog style in & out. They will go into gear while running but it is not a good thing since it will round off the edges of the male dogs and eventually will pop op out of gear. Without the motor running, pull the handle back and tap the starter a few times until they line up and it will slide into gear...If you put a whirlaway in, it has a ratchet deal and it will go into gear while running with ease.!..
BTW, do you have a safety collar by the shaft log???, kinda hard to tell inthe pic!..

The coil shouldn't be to much trouble, it's going away in a little while. Actually, the perspective is a little skewed, there is more than enough room between where the coil is mounted and the timming cover.
I figured that was the deal on getting the drive engaged, thanks Art. There is a collar on the shaft, you just can't see it from that angle.
