OK, I have a little problem.  I'm building a new motor for the pick-up and I need a new crank (actually a whole new rotating assembly).  I was going to build a 427 (3.76" stroke), but I can't find a crank that doesn't cost a small fortune.   GM still makes one, but it is a one piece rear main, and I have a two piece.

I have found a couple of the overseas (i.e. china or taiwan) cranks, but I question the reliability.  If I can't find a good crank in a few weeks, I'm going to change directions and build a 454.

I was looking at Ohio Crank, but I suspect those are foriegn made also.  Any suggestions on a manufacturer?

Did ya try PAW, they have lots of engine kits from so-so to decent, as far as quality goes. Did a quick search on MSN but nothing yet, I have a catalog at home I'll ck it when I get there.
PAW stands for Performance Automotive Wherehouse.
I like 427's they twist up a little quicker than 454's, but you know what they say bigger is better :)

I've got an old PAW catalog from a couple years ago, I don't think they have an online catalog.

I've heard good things and bad things about PAW, any experience?

Looks like the have new cranks for 454, the 427's look like they are reconditioned factory pieces.

I have bought some stuff from them over the years, no cranks though. I read some article in a mag once, they built one of their kit motors, seemed to be ok with them.
I think they have a Website that you input the part #'s that you get from their catolog. That catolog has to be almost 3" thick, would take a bit to get it all on line I guess(look how long we've been waiting for RexOne to finish Rex Marine's  :laugh ) You could always get one from PAW and have a machine shop ck it out.

I called and talked to them before I left for work.  My catalog still had an old GM performance 3.76" crank shown, but it has since been discontinued.  PAW told me they do have new cast steel cranks made for thier store brand, which would probably be alright since this motor is going in the pick-up and not the boat.  I had my mind set on a forged crank though.

Thanks everyone.

I'll call and see what I can find.  Speedomotive lists a new 3.76 crank, but it's the 1 piece rear main.

Blown472 sent me here....

I have an entire rotating assembly that I will sell you.  The crank is a GM 6223 and the rods are GM Dimples.  The pistons are TRW dome L2239N.  Let me know if you're interested.  The pistons are .060 over and this will give you approximately 12:1 final compression.  I pulled this stuff out because I am getting a whole new rotating assembly for a blower motor and this was far too high compression for that.  Motor was running fine when I took it out but some of the bearings looked a little worn.  The crank looks fine.  I can take pictures and send them to you.  Let me know if you're interested.

78 Elim.

Sounds like that might work.  I was just looking for a crank, but I'll take the whole works also.

I'll drop you an e-mail.

Thanks

Aaron

What do you have to have for a forgoten crank?

One crank is a cherry take out and it's standard, all it needs is a polish to use as is!. That one is $250.00 + Ship. The other two are not standard, I'd have to measure them, don't remember what they are, they are in excellent shape though. I'll take $100.00 each + Ship.   :)

Speedomotive is a great shop. August has been very helpful with my 440. They beat the ARP studs by over a 150 bucks.
