Any of you outboard guys, ( or anyone else that knows motors.) what will Boysen reeds and velocity stacks do for my 200??  Also I think my friend that removed my motor said my compression was about 114 in all chambers..I think that may be low??  Could I have him do something to the heads??  I like the higher exhaust sound of a motor that has been built a little...any advise??

Back to my two stroke days, Reeds improve throttle response and some torque. Velocity stacks improve airflow thus a little bump in HP but, alittle spooky as far as stuff getting in the engine. Ck on K&N filters instead(if the make them for wackers  :p ) Shaving the heads or running thin head gaskets will bump the compression. Porting is away to make big HP but sometimes if ya go overboard it effects driveabilty in a bad way. ie...screams like a banshee on top end but won't get out of its own way on idle or mid range. This is all motorcycle stuff I'm talking about, but I'm sure it applies to boats pretty much the same way :good

Thanks AZKC,  seems a little silly after my accident that I want more HP doesn't it??????

But the motor is off- now is the time to mess with it...

What is "porting" and if my compression is low, how do I fix that like new??

Porting is a enlarging and reshaping and polishing(normally just exhaust gets polished) of the passages that bring the air/fuel mixture(intake ports) into the cylinders and the exhaust port which has the exhaust pipes hooked to them. Not sure how it works on OutBoards but I'll bet if ya ask Kim Hansen or KPHayes they can send down the road of Horsepower.

If your compression is low on all cylinders its just normal wear, usually that can be fixed with some new piston rings.

This is just basic stuff,  if your wanting more expert advice seek someone with more experience with boat motors. :good

Waterpony, the best thing would be to relieve the exhaust! You would gain 20-25 % more horsepower, reeds I don't know! I run stock ones and shaving the heads, don't really know about that either!

Nitrous is a good bang for the buck, I would just do the exhaust and run a bigger prop, I use a 30-pitch and here is what it all looks like. :cool
