Right on Reason I asked I've seen many many without that little backing strip and the housing ends up wearing a hole in the wood or glass and then slips out!..

They sure are a pain, I usually make one out of aluminum bore a hole and then use a set screw, it's never going anywhere and easy to take off and put on!..
