I don't want to use my old one but the price difference for Nodular iron (OEM) and steel is huge. Do the Oem or cast come appart? Is the benefit worth the $$$$

Why buy Versachi when Levi is the same.

This is not something you compare like Levis. OEM balancers are good for a daily driver only, that's what they were made for not performance. If the ring comes off(and they DO) it is like a buzz saw and it will take out everything in it's path, I've seen them take out the side of a boat before, that's why they are all banned in any racing association!. You don't need a hig dollar Fluidampr or ATI, as long as it's SFI approved it will be safe. Summit has one that's pretty reasonable!.. :good

Thanks GF, I did find some good alternatives last night I drive by PAW on my way home every night. So I stopped in. I'm still having a hard time with that cam button. The cover sold to me was for pre 1991 had a bottom edge like yours where the last two pan bolts are in the cover. My Gen V block has a grove across the bottom like a small block PAW didn't have one so I found one in Oshkash at Compitision Parts but still the same depth. The buttons are made at .80 for small blocks and .95 big blocks and I have .75 clearance. So i'm going back to PAW today for some hands on parts surching. Try to do it right the first time.  :banghead  :banghead P.S. can't machine that much off. Going to see if the small block model is adaptible. Cloyes has a neat cover with an adjustible  bearing in the cover but not for  gen V.

You could just make an aluminum button the right lenght, save a bunch of time. That cover is cool, I'm sure one of these days they'll make one for the GenV!. :rolleyes BTW, taking the time and doing it "right" the first time will save a whole bunch of hassle down the road!.. :good

I just had this happen with a steel balancer! I was just  taking off when I heard a grind noise so I shut down. when I looked at the motor, the steel balancer had came apart. lucky for me it headed towards the engine and I caught it before it cut thru the timing cover. thinking I was thru for the weekend my buddy said call scot over at DYNO-FLO in henderson [lake mead area] 702-567-3035. scot had fluid balancers SFI for $140.00 in stock, internal and external balance. I was back on the water in a couple hrs. pep boys has all the tools and they loan them out!

Glad to hear it was a quick fix. I did find a good one at PAW in Chatsworth CA for about 120.00.

BTW put mine in the water for the first time May 5th it has so much torque the boat lists about 5 degrees when hammer down.

Going to the zoo Aug 28th :jumpie  :jumpie

the lucky part was just before that I was leaning over the motor power timing the dist. while my son was throttling the boat out off the hole. not like the old biesmeyer where you could just reach over the seat :good

yea! i've had a couple!! I think the last one I had was a 57 maybe
59. if you ran lake mead in the day, hemming way harbor used to be horse power cove!! it was great to go there in the early morn. or evening just to look at the flatties--- you could back your trailer in and leave it while you went out for a blast, come back and slide on the trailer. I remember putting a glide trans in that boat in the 70s. had never seen anybody do before just wanted a reverse and netural

bought it for a couple hundred bucks with a blown lower unit. I went to the libray and got the manual and rebuilt my first lower unit. not much to those things! :stupid  used to go to horse power cove and drool over the hot boats hope'n and wishin

I rebuilt my 454 merc to 488@ 575 horse. The thing is it's in my 22' Ultra Stealth "family" boat. The engine is built to handle much more if I decide to put any boost to it. As it is it's more than what the boat needs.

It's cool you get to race around with your boy at the helm. My son is only 4 and already loves the boat. He gets excited as soon as I hook it to the truck.
