Anyone heard of using Toluene as an octane booster???

I was reading an article and it said that most racing fuel uses it to increase the octane rating..

Check out thisOctane

Read thru the article and thats pretty interesting. Back in the day we would use Cox model engine fuel in a mix on our race bikes. But it was a methanol/nitro methane mix.

"Chevron's published composition of 100 octane aviation fuel shows that toluene comprises up to 14% alone and is the predominant aromatic hydrocarbon. Unfortunately composition specifications for automotive gasoline is harder to pin down due to constantly changing requirements"

Seems a bit pricy just to raise the octane 1-2 points :stupid

OH YEAH...I did alot of homework on this... Octane boost home brew... all it is  toulene mineral sprits and trans fluid...and you have to add it at 10 % mix... I have the exact formula if anyone  wants it... it does work...

Thanks for the link! :good

So in a 20 gallon tank I add 2-4 gallons of toluene to 16-18 gall of 92 and I will be good to go?

If you run 30% it will give you 98 octane, should be good, just don't run a lot of lead in the mag, keep it at 36 and you should be ok, just have to experiment a bit with it!.. :good

Of course depending where you go, Avgas can be just as cheap!.. :good

Just to give you a heads up I ran it 30-40% and it worked great but it will eat rubber lines. Some of my stainless braid hose it teflon lined and some is not. All hose that was not teflon lined didn't last 2 years.

Did you let your lines go dry while sitting??. I lost lines just from gas before from sitting dry, as long as there's gas in them they won't dry out!. I haven't had that problem since I started using Marvel in the gas though!.. :good
