Quote (Sleek-Jet @ May 14 2003,12:11 pm) | Nope, the 350 is going into the boat. Â It won't be terribly fast, but will still be an excuse to go to the lake, and that's all I need. |
I hope you realize if you make Red Rock in Sep. that you will want to shit can yours in a hurry, especially after I take you for a ride in mine!..

Quote (AZKC @ May 14 2003,2:34 pm) | What's in the Cutlass? Hey your better off with the 350 it will save a ton of gas money.
KC |
It's kind of a convaluted story, but the 455 is in the Cutlass, and the boat was without a motor, and I had the 350 sitting on the garage floor, and the boat's in good enough shape not just to scrap, and I like to do thing the hard way, and I finally talked myself into it. Â Â Â
Soooooo, the 350 goes in the boat. Â
And Gofast, I still am looking for a good V-drive project for next winter, then I'll have a nice "fun/take people skiing/play with the family" boat, and an "oh my god/hang on tight/ shit I didn't know you could go so fast on water/ I nearlly pissed my pants" boat as well. Â
Pop quiz of the day, any one know where the motor that is now in the Cutlass came from ?????

You sir.... are correct.
I started out trying to find a 455 for the Cutlass. All the ones around here were run out and needed overhauled. I got looking and found a couple fresh engines in some old Jet boats, for the same price of overhauling an engine, and bought one (the Sleek-Jet) just for the engine. I was going to scrap the boat and make a car trailer out of the boat trailer. But, the more I looked at the boat, I could see it was in pretty good shape, to nice just to throw away. And that brings me to where I am at today.
See, convaluted.

Well, I was going to guess the same thing since that was a common setup, I've never seen a 350 Olds in a boat from the factory!.
Soo Sleek, what are you looking for in a V-Drive boat?, maybe I can locate one for ya!..

I don't think there were any 350's in boats either, but I've talked to a couple people that have ran them in boats and they didn't have nearly the problems that people have had with the 455's. We'll see how this works out.
As far as the v-drives go, I want to stress the looking and the project part of it. I've found a couple of turn key boats, but they are out of my price range. I don't want a boat with an engine, as I am going to do something a little different in that area, but I want all the running gear. Gel coat and paint doesn't matter much either, as long as the hull is sound and it has a good trailer also.
So, let me know if you here of anything.

I had some friends that had 455's and they had problems too but that's because the oiling system in stock motors leave a lot to be desired, anything over 5500, you start to starve the motor of oil, if you modify the oiling system, they can work very well. I had a friend that had a old 442 and he drag raced it for a long time with no problems at all, it was a 10.50 car!..
I know where ther's one of these, it's all there but the motor but it's all apart, I never seen the hardware but it's supposed to be all black powder coated but I seen the boat, it's a good boat but it is a project, if I had the money right now, I would buy it!..

That was a borowwed trailer he had for that race. The project is the same kind of boat(Rayson Craft), here's a couple of pics on the interior. The dash is just an add on, I would eliminate that in a hurry!..He told me $7000 for the whole works on the trailer which has been redone and it's ready for paint!..

Quote (AZKC @ May 28 2003,3:43 pm) | How are you identifying the wires are the labeled or color coded  Your scratches are nothin. I abuse mine, unfortuneatly(sp) and its starting to show  |
I have a Kroy label maker that prints out on heat shrink tubing.  I just label each end of the wire, then I'll ring the harness out with my ohm meter before I do any final connections.  I'm not good with color codes, I never can remember them, to much  .  Â
I've built quite a few harnesses for aircraft radios that way, so I'm just used to it more than anything else.
Cleaning the boat out, I found $2.32 worth of change in the bottom, so I'm going to name her "Money for Nothing". Â What do you think???
