OK, so this isn't a tech question, but I had to vent. :angry

I was headed over to the girlfriends house today for dinner before I had to go to work. :good I was driving the Cutlass and she lives down a few county roads.  So, I'm going around a sweeping right corner, and the right front wheel drops into a little hole.  "SCRAPE!!!" is what I hear.  "Hmm, that's probably not good", I think.

... It wasn't good.

I pull into the driveway and get out of the car.  That's when I notice the little stream of oil following the car up the driveway, and the oil all over the back of the car.  Down on my hand and knees, and oh shit!!!. :eek There's oil pouring out the back of the pan.  (I put one of those 9 qrt pans on the 455 when I stuck it in the car.  It hangs a little low... alot to low it turns out. :stupid )

So now my beloved Cutlass is sitting in my girlfriends driveway, bleading to death.  I had good oil pressure when I shut the motor off, so I don't think I hurt anything.

... but, the days I had dedicated to the boat will be for the Cutlass now.  Fuck, at this rate, I'll never get the boat done this year. :beat

Ahh, I feel a little better now.

Damn that sucks! :angry I can relate to that, same thing happened to me a long time ago in a Mustang, don't like those deep pans on the street!. At least you got where you were going to before you ran out of oil, I wasn't that lucky!.. :angry

OK, the drama has subsided.  The new oil pan is ordered, along with a standard volume oil pump.

Gotta love these hot rods!!!  :good

Okay, I'm a little late on this one.... But whatabummer.... It sounds like you are getting it put back together though.  Will you still have time to play with the boat?   :(

I wanna play... I have a horror story...

This was with my Ford Explorer (yes, I know... Exploder) ;)  anyways, I had just had my oil changed at Firestone (because I'm a girly-girl and pay to have it done), I was driving down the freeways and I heard a thump.  I didn't see anything that I could have run over, so I thought... "whatever" and kept on driving.
When I got home I noticed my truck was leaking oil.  Hmmm...  :stupid   So, I thought it was just that the mechanics spilled oil on my engine or something when changing it that day, I didn't really think much of it other than "what a bunch of slobs."
The next day I go to get in my truck and noticed this huge puddle of oil under my truck... Uh Oh  :rolleyes   So I call Firestone and tell them what the symptoms are, they said to have my truck towed into thier station. WHAT?  I'm not paying for towing....  Anyways, I decided to take my chance and drive it to the shop (it was only 10 miles away).  When I got there, they had the nerve to ask me what I did with the oil drain plug.  Like I even know what or where one of those goes on my truck, and if I did, Like I'd take it off.  DUUUHHHHH !!  Anyways, after I had a guy friend of mine come down and tell them off, they fixed the issue.

But can you believe that they thought "I" took it off????  So, I concluded (with the help of my guy friends) that the thump I had heard the night before was the plug falling out and bouncing off the concrete.  All because Jose or Juan or Sergio didn't tighten it when he put it back in after changing my oil.

That's my horror story.   Men, please do not let your lady's take any vehicle to a shop alone.  They will always try to screw us over.  I admit, I have no idea about engines or anything, but I've learned never to go alone (without a male escort) to an auto shop.   :rolleyes

Sometimes even having a guy with you wont help.  The girlfriend has a POS Ford Focus.  This thing has been trouble since it was new.

The other day it quit us and we had it towed to the local Ford house.  Now these guys are the biggest bunch of arrogant pricks I've ever seen assembled in one place.  We walk in and the service manager looks up and says, in his best sarcastic tone, "What, it's broke down again??"  No asshole, we just like packing it around on the back of a roll-back tow truck.

We spent 5 minutes telling them what happened, and what I had tried to do to fix it (the car acted like it was starving for gas, so I put a new fuel filter on, I had a shot I figured).  The guy looks at me and say, "Well, we'll put a new fuel filter on it and see if that fixes it."  You could here my jaw drop.

We ended up with a new fuel pump in it, and it worked for a while, but it's still is not right.  So I called them today, and told them the car is still not running right.  Now these guys want the car back so they can put another pump in it.  "Nope" I said, "we've eliminated the fuel system, unless we didn't get a new pump last week."

... silence on the other end of the phone.

You can't trust anyone, pricks.  :guns

I think it's an ignition problem now, if they put a new pump in last week.

I'm beggining to not like cars :rolleyes ,  especially one I can't really work on.

'm sorry to hear about your g-friends car too.  I almost bought one so I could save $ on gas, but then when I went out and test drove it, I said, "screw it, I'll pay the gas prices"  It's just to low to the ground for me.  They are cute cars though.  ;)

:rotflmao   I'm sorry, they way you write the story about your experience with the guys in the shop was funny.  :D  I have a friend who is a Ford Certified Mechanic and he works at one of the local dealerships here, I tried to imagine him being the way you described and I just can't see it, but I'm sure he is.  There is just an arrogance about car mechanics in general.  It's almost like they know they have the upper hand and they use it against you.

Good luck with the vehicles.  ;)
