Did anyone see the article in Hot Boat about inducers for jets?
Looks like it could help the hole shot (don't what drag it might have on the top end). Here is a link if anybody is interested.

Well the theory is to help keep the pump loaded at lower speeds but kinda looks like a restriction also, but realtime testing will tell, it'll still suck up the gas and go nowhere!.. :rolleyes

Unless you're full throttle the pump is hardly ever fully loaded which makes it inefficient, this is supposed to help load up the pump at low speeds, good idea if it really works!.. :good

According to the article it really improved the hole shot and maintained the top speed on the jet they tested. The boat they did the work on was a 21ft vee-bottom cruiser w/ a 502 in it. The owner primarily wanted to get on plane faster and yank skiers out quicker. I would think at some high performance level it would create drag but, for that type of application it sounds good...

If you look at what most guys honestly use their boats for, cruzing and skiing, it sounds like a good idea.

As long as the cost isn't to great, and the top end doesn't suffer more than 5 to 8 mph.

But the odds are still against you, jets use hp and mpg.

Pumps in 21' v bottoms don't work "efficiently" never have, it takes everything it has to get them going let alone trying to pull a skier, even at speed you can't keep the pump loaded.. Maybe it does help load up the pump :stupid But to me somewhere along the line it's going to hurt, and it still nothing but a gas hog!.. :rolleyes

I have an inducer on my 21ft jet...  But I cant tell you if it makes it work any better because I have always had it... But I do have a AB impeller on there and I can pull skiers with it.. (Except I have to drop the hammer and and backoff)

I love jets... But I am beginning to learn that having a jet in a larger boat is a bad idea!  18footers... Its Great, Fun and even fuel efficient!  But in a 21footer...  Its still nice to have the ability to go shallow and not worry about a prop, but Im here to tell you that you burn a shit pile of gas to do what should only take you a fraction of the gas!

That just my $2 Dollars and 75 cents... (A gallon)

Well there's the key, you haven't tried anything else so it's impossible to know if it works, and the fact you have AB impeller makes it even harder because now you have two items changed from stock and you don't know which helps the most or hurt if any? :stupid In a jet you have to hammer it to get the pump to load up, that's what moves the boat!..

I have the feeling you've never driven anything else but a pump :stupid Even 18ftrs are not economical in fuel(man have I pissed off a lot of people proving that, lol)everything is still the same just smaller, and yes it is a tad easier than the larger boats but still a gas hog. Also steering in a jet is crap compared to a prop(of any kind)!.. As far as shallow water goes think of this, a prop is moving forward and the crud is going away from the prop, with a pump you are sucking up all the crud from the bottom and passing it thru the pump, and in two feet of water you are picking shit up at idle, think about it!. But regardless of what kind of boat, none are meant to driven around in two feet of water.. :laugh  A while back a friend of mine had a jet, came up to me and said he couldn't figure why his boat all of a sudden was going faster, he gained 300rpm I told him he wasen't going any faster and I can prove it(at the time I had a ski boat and both went about the same speed)so we went out for the test and I walked all over him(man was he pissed)so we went home and took his pump apart and it was thrashed, even his nice stainless impeller was messed up, at least it was repairable!. Needless to say he wouldn't do anything but idle in three feet of water after that, LOL... :laugh

The only other boats I have driven are OB's and V-Drive Wakeboard boats.

It is true that they got better mileage, but they were also alot slower.  Neways....  I have me eye out for a good V-Drive now, but I am thinking more of a 21-23'  If anyone sees one please give me a heads up!

I would like to change out boats for next year too. Get away from the o/b but, I probably won't get a pump.
