THis is just to bitch but......

I just spent the last 20 minutes on the phone with both auto parts stores trying to see if they had stock on a GM one wire alternator for the boat. (Because I wanted to replace it on my trip to the river this weekend)

i swear.... They have never heard of the alternator... So now I am naming off cars that had a MKIV 454 4 bolt, but no... Aparently they dont have any parts for a 7.4L motor...  They both think that there was never a 454 offered, even in old trucks... :flamed

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....  Im goin to Napa.... at least there are some people that have seen a 454 there... :angry  Or al least heard stories about them.......  :angry  :(

I have really good luck with Car Quest auto parts stores.  They tend to be more along the lines of parts guys than air freshener salesman.

Heck, the guys I go to are the types that you can just tell them what part you need, like a 1 wire GM alternator, and they'll just go back and get one.   :good

You missed the part where you looked it up on the computer...  :comp

You think buying parts for a boat is bad??  Trying getting parts for a 53 flat fender Jeep with an odd fire Buick 225 under the hood at Autozone.  Those guys will look at you like you just walked off the moon.   :alien  :beat

I hear that!!!   I get so pissed going to checker, autozone or pepboys for parts.  If your working on something over 10 years old they go into brain lock.  I to have been behind the counter at auto parts.  I would love to see one of these snot nosed fools try to look up a part via a book in a rack 3 feet long.  :good   :D

You got to remember that 99% of these guys that work at these parts stores barely know how to start a vehicle let alone know what a part is, all they know is to punch shit in the computer and some have a hard time doing that even, but they act like they are King of parts, I love messing with these guys and looking at the expression on their faces when I make em look like dickheads :laugh

That's because they don't have a clue what the part is and wouldn't know where to look for it, all they go by is a number that comes up in the computer then they go back and look for a box with that number!.. :rolleyes  Yeah I love when they ask shit like that, I always tell them all the opposite stuff and when they bring the part out and tell them that's what I need, then I tell them what I really have, that just blows them away!.. :D  :laugh  :laugh

A lady, that works near my house at a Checker Auto Parts, has a husband that drag races. She thinks she knows it all, and has all of the answers.

I went in to get some trans fluid for my '68 p/u. I picked up a couple of quarts and went to pay for them. This lady was the cashier and she asked if I was putting the fluid in a Ford. I told her it was going into my Chevy. She told me that I had the wrong fluid. I told her that the trans had been rebuilt, and that the builder put F.A. fluid in it, and that's why I was using it in my truck. She insisted, even after the explanation, that I was using the wrong fluid and that if I put that fluid in it I was going the ruin the trans. I bought it and put it in right in front of the store with her looking out watching.....Here we are several years later, and more F.A. fluid, and it's still works perfecly, just like the builder said it would.

That Cracks me up  :rotflmao

Nextime I will tell them that I have AC on my open-bow!!!!

But what I can say for those places is that you can get a alternator for 35 bucks, and whoo cares if it gets wet...

Ohh and the funny thing about this thread.....  When we took the old alternator off, it litterally fell apart in my buddies hand!!!! Lucky we thought to replace it (the 19 volt spikes tipped us off too)

I know the GM 1 Wire will work with the "One wire"  which is how it is hooked up but doesnt it kick in better if you jumper one of the terminals to the main one wire terminal???  And if so which one???  Maybe a dumb question but Im-a-asking anyways!

I occasionally go to the Local hardware store and ask for acrylic dowels, they walk all over the store trying to find out if they have 'em, dumbasses.  :banghead  :banghead

Is that anything like a left handed metric hammer?? :stupid  :D

Go ask if you can get the Left Handed Metric Hammer and the Wood Stretcher, one of those dipshits is bound to go looking... :D  ;)
