Anyone using radar detectors running back and forth to the river? Which kind work? Don't work? I haven't seen any in awhile and was wondering....... Not that I speed while on the way to the river or anything. :)

Probably the best is the "Valentine One", for $350.00 and the "Escort" is also very good for about "$300.00 :good

The Valentine 1 is the only way to go.  I had an Escort for years and it can't carry the V1's jockstrap.  It will tell you how many are out there and point to which direction they are coming from. I hate driving without mine and am about ready to order another one so I have one for each truck instead of having to switch them back and forth.

Well I've never used a detector but everyone I've known that used one says you can't beat the Valentine 1!. Myself I always relied on the ole CB, and I never go over the speed limit so I didn't have anything to worry about! C'MON!... :D

That was my last detector and then I stepped it up and got the V1.  The Passport is a good unit but it will only pick up one radar at a time and it doesn't tell you where it is.

I was out in West Phoenix a while back with the V1 and it was picking up 4 radars, then 5, then 3, then 5, and was jumping around.  It picks them up so far back that at first you think it's a false alarm.  I get up a little further and there were 5 motor cops running radar.  The V1 was picking up every one of their guns individually.  Pretty cool stuff there.

each gun has a pattern, If you built a gps into the unit you could exclude the false signals by location and signutre. If you drove the same route you could get to where when you got an alarm it was the real deal every time.

things like the market or the airport at the summit, also I get some signals on rice that are false. I would like to exclude them but there is no way  :stupid

Here's the latest poop:
http://speedzones.com/

I've been thinking of upgrading mine. I've had the same unit for about 5 years now and I see there's new technology thses days....only problem is I don't drive as fast as I used to and I'm usually towing something these days so I don't know about dropping $300 on a detector.

Besides, nowadays that's almost a tank of gas! :eek

Great choice.  I just wish I would have gone that route a few years ago.  Amazing detector.  Just the ability to tell you how many and where they are is worth the cost of admission.   :good

You can get it here but unfortunately the price has gone up to $399.

Still cheap compared to the price of a ticket and your insurance going up. :good

Just don't rely on it too heavily.  The radar I use at work is "instant on" and also has VASCAR capabilities that I use sometimes.  I'm pretty sure, Bob you can verify this, that Nevada uses VASCAR quite a bit and radar detectors won't help you there.  Same goes if they're using aircraft, but that's rare these days with the price of fuel.

Yeah I bought the Valentine and it works well. I talked to my buddy who is a local cop and he explained the instant on and you don't have a chance against that if you are the only one on the road.

You're so right! Nevada still does use VASCAR, but mostly by local Sheriffs any more. Most other states don't allow it.

On I-15 NHP uses radar and old fashioned pacing from 1/2 mile back.

Between Salt Lake and St. George up in Utah I've seen major uses of unmarked units. For example, Iron County Sheriff has a silver unmarked Crown Vic, a silver Z-28, a blue 2004 Mustang GT and a brand new silver Mustang GT. All 4 are on the road every day and write boatloads of speeding tickets, without using radar.

UHP also uses unmarked Crown Vics in all assorted colors.

Well, a Crown Victoria (actually Police Intercepter) is easy enough to spot in any color.  Its the others that get tough to spot.  We just got 10 new Dodge Chargers.  They marked them and we're just testing them for now, but if they decide to switch, we'll have a bunch of them unmarked.

I wonder how many people with radar detectors get caught on the 101 by the photo enforcement.  It doesn't use radar, but sensors in the road.

Photo radar is a joke.  I wonder how many drunks or felons with warrants they've taken pictures of...and let go.
